So i decided to try out the game (ive actually never played the first one.. so yeah..)
And my first impressions... what a horrible console piece of shit. I just cant get past the horrible controls and atrocious graphics.. even if the game has the best gamelay in the world.. its just looks and feels bad Neutral

I went the path "Giants of Trees" or something like that, where you find a fire sword on your way in a cave.
Anyhow, i went up some big root, and killed two skeletons. Then i went up a small ladder on some rooftop. There some bird brought in a big knight that teleported. I ran away lol, but now he disappaered and never comes again? Crying or Very sad

I finally had the chance to play the game for a while (until I defeated the first Giant in the forest), and I must admit, I had a lot of fun. The game is great as far as I'm concerned. But then again, I do not belong to the Dark Souls Elite Quicksave™ Knighthood Razz Cool Face
It's the very definition of more of the same, which for a game like Dark Souls is pretty much the ideal scenario for me. Perhaps not as inspired as DS1..still pleasant though, and tough, hell it is tough!

The port is definitely better this time around, mouse controls are honestly more refined overall BUT, there are some aspects that irk me, such as:

- the delay that affects MB1/2, parrying/attacking are nowhere as responsive as the gamepad;
- 360 icons everywhere, if you're not familiar with the series you'll have to struggle in order to know which command does what;
- the menu/inventory are more PC-friendly, but still far from optimal;
I had to use the gamepad (once again), here's hoping the aforementioned stuff gets fixed asap, so I can go back to using mouse controls.

Graphics are okay, in my opinion. Not great by any means, they're an evolution over DS1, many lightning sources don't cast shadows at all, and that's very noticeable sadly. The downgrade sometimes really shows..but overall the visuals do their job fine. I still haven't used any of the custom graphical tricks from the masterrace chest, will do it tonight.

However, I don't really get the whole "60fps OMG can you believe it, thank you based FROM" excitement since this is a game that looks frankly quite dated, and it's clear that anyone with some basic knowledge on programming can handle a port like this without too much hassle. Now of course if you compare it to the dreadful job that the team of untrained monkeys did with the first game, then Dark Souls part II is an outstanding port. It's all a matter of perspective. note to new players: you miss lots of things when playing in offline mode.. so yea the game can be quit boring. besides that i think some of the bosses require mp or u have to be very skilled. for me in the beginning the game was a bit of a downfall. but when making some progress u will see the world is huge.. and there is lots of variation in lvl design. well i like it Razz (also played demon souls, ds1)

You miss out on being able to interact with other players which also renders the co-op and PvP covenants useless (Leaving only the two PvE oriented ones.) but you can still do everything in the game other than that. Smile
(Summoning AI NPC's - which has another use as well besides just getting help with certain sections - and getting invaded, that's not removed when using offline mode though you do need to be human instead of hollow.)

The best I've found is the mace sold by the blacksmith, it demolishes armored enemies. 3-4 hits to kill the giants in Heide's Tower of Flame.

Don't see what's weird about that. The Gothic games are better than these silly Shiny Souls games, especially Gothic II.

What happened?

They fucked up the character movement so bad to the point it makes me want to uninstall this game altogether. The sense of weight you got by moving around in DS1 is completely gone, now it feels like you're sliding or even floating on the ground. Also, in DS1 there were only two options - walking and running, but now you can actually control the character movement speed with an analogue stick which feels totally out of place in a DS game. I'd compare this change with RE6 running and shooting nonsense - it just didn't feel like a proper RE anymore.

The animations look kind of unpolished compared to DS1. They also changed the camera position for some reason - it's way too far this time around.

Yes, the framerate is better, but it doesn't really matter when the graphics still suck with promised lighting effects nowhere to be seen. Or just take one quick look at the character creation - that PS2 era hair looks simply embarrassing.

The magic of DS1 is gone. It's Dragon Age 2 all over again - rushed, soulless fan service. Simplified garbage with bullshit level design ruined by fast travel. One boring boss fight after another. No more fair fun. DS3? Better not...

in dks2 you have to press the examine button, or A button on gamepad to check for hidden walls, just run diagonally at the side of the walls and hammer that button if you really wanna check em all, its a welcome change since you dont need to hit every wall a thousand times.

walls that are marked after using a pharros lockstone have to be hit though.

Yes I tried it and It reminded me why I stopped playing the first one. Bad console port. They didnt learn a bit from the last one, its idiotic to force console controller on pc players when pc already has the best controller already present M&K. A classic case of consolitis. A waste of download, I m happy i didn't buy it.

I think I'm done with this...

It's like they took every single thing that I liked about DS1, threw them out and built the game around what I didn't like.

I agree with that video posted a few pages back, it's a total disappointment.

"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

is it harder than ds1 or i just lost my touch Very Happy, i mean i died 10-15 times at that knight in the forest that sits down Laughing - funny thing is i killed him the first time i encountered him on my warrior save but that save only used it for the lols and see how the game works, and now with the knight he semms invincible Laughing ; i find it way harder with only one estus and those lifegems Sad, also it looks like the combat si much faster than ds1, maybe thats why its harder

also how that respawn stopping works? if i die does that count as respawn or only if i use the bonfire to respawn mobs counts as a respawn time
