Well if its slower than windows then whats the point ? Had it for a while on my ssd after i got sick of teh always changing linux world ..and it ran great.. would had stick with it but game addiction is too stronk damit..

OSX isnt per se slower than Windows. It just feels different. (Has to do with how the designers fine-tune response to clicks etc. )
I use both on the same machine. Both installed on SSDs and they are not slower. In fact, with the latest Clover v. 26xx as a EFI-bootloader OSX boots just as fast as Windows 8.1.
I find myself using Windows exclusively for gaming and OSX for when I'm working on papers and stuff.

Booting on OS X is fast, yes (and I'm talking a real boot, not the wake from sleep so many people call "booting").
But stress your system a bit and OS X falls behind Windows very rapidly. With Mavericks it has improved a lot, but Windows' resource management is still better. I/O scheduling in particular is just way behind. I've got a 2012 15" MBP w/ i7, 16 gigs of RAM and an 840 Pro and I still run into I/O bottlenecks before CPU bottlenecks. At least they finally got rid of the bug where plugging in a USB device would lock the entire internal bus up (on my MBP), disabling touchpad + keyboard + other USB peripherals for a couple of seconds until the initialisation is done  |

Sigh skx, can you just stop already? You're not going to convince anyone and that's coming from someone who's been running a multitude of Debian servers since Etch (about 40 in total now, all Debian; handful are on Ubuntu 12.04 because they run Ruby and Ruby on Squeeze is a PITA compared to Precise). You are just as big of an idiot as all the Mactards who think OS X is flawless and unhackable or those who think Windows is the best server platform.
All three have their place, all three can work as a desktop OS depending on what you need. For me, the number of VMs I need to use is the lowest on OS X, so that's what I run nowadays. I'll be damned before I start using Windows for servers though...or better yet, OS X Server

Yes, that may be, but I've never quite stressed my system in OSX, since what I mostly do for work is text work. Mavericks has been an improvement, especially concerning battery life on my MBA. My MBA is still using a 1.6Ghz C2D but with the SSD and Mavericks it's still good enough for what I do. I never thought I'd be using that C2D for so long.
And please dont stone me, but with disabled UAC and with Startisback, Windows 8.1 has not been as bad as some people make it seem.

The OSes themselves are OK, but the problem is in the software. Elementary at least does their best to configure some software to look native. But that's just few apps. The rest look retarded (or, "out of the 90s" as someone else put it). Terrible.
That's what I like about the Mac - almost everything is consistent. |

1. previous knowledge about Linux (for instance how to connect to the office network (if it's a Windows network you'll have to keep that in mind).
2. which applications you need
3. if the company support technician know Linux

As an update. You need to own an existing OS X License (coming with an Apple computer).
Not really a good idea to run a pirated OS in a working environment. Besides, Windows 7 or Linux are obvious choices whereas OS X is not (for soooooooooo many reasons). Depending on needs, OS X runs very well on VMWare, which is what I always recommend instead of dual-boot. (And it seems to have worked well in the case of kumkss.)
When you need Office capabilities, there is just no replacement (yet) for Windows or OS X. You can kid around with LibreOffice (and GIMP is better than Photoshop), but when you need to work, you go to the big boys. |

When in doubt, you can always check dedoimedo reviews. He does sound like a jackass, but he actually tests relevant things (out-of-box codecs, preinstalled software, smb sharing, network printing, resource usage, graphics drivers, bugs and crashes, update procedure etc) so it's a nice overview if some distro can fulfil this task of being a work OS. Of course, you don't get the info about long term reliability from these reviews, but in most cases, if based on Debian or Red Hat and if it's not a rolling distro, it will work fine.
