I don't particularly care about speedruns but this one is far from a "legit" requirements by design approach. It is impressive on it's own though.
I actually tried to do the same thing for the Jeigh bonfire when I started playing. It didn't look like and endgame zone at first. I gave up on jumping around after a minute and of course noticed later on that it's actually behind a ring door when I got to the other side so I wasn't supposed to be there yet anyway
Well the ancient dragon is really beginning to piss me off. I must have attempted it 50 times and I am continuously oneshotted with goddamn fire. Ive seen videos and tips but I still cannot do it lol.
Also when the first time I saw the ancient dragon, I got up real close and he did not attack. I think I might have been able to talk to him but I decided to fire arrows at him instead. Now he attacks me every time I enter the mist lol. I think maybe if I use a bonfire ascetic I might get the option to talk to him again?
Also the other day before I attempted it, I summoned two phantoms. Whilst waiting for them to appear I got invaded. This guy was pretty tough and by the time the summoned phantoms arrived I was almost dead. They both saved me and kicked his ass! I received what I thought was about 48,000 souls which was nice but I was tired as fuck and it was stupid o'clock in the morning and then realised it was about 480,000 souls! Couldnt believe it lol. I levelled up loads with that! lol.
Ive played about 100 hours so far and I still love this game
Yeah, the ancient dragon can be a pain in the ass. Took me about 10 attempts, but I finally got his ass. Felt like the biggest achievement in my life at the time.

lol 10? Is that all? I look forward to a similar feeling if I ever beat it lol.
10 was a lot. Never died that much on any other boss, except the smelter demon (which was another pain of a boss for me) it's usually on my first first try or 2-3 more.
Just go super light or even naked, equip a shield with stamina regen (you can buy one from the crypt guardian or farm for one in Shrine of Amana from those cleric knights) and a weapon that does a lot of damage but isn't too slow on attack animation I recommend on without elemental enhancements (I used dranglaic longswod at +5) so you can use a lightning pine reshine as he's really weak to lightning. Either that or something like the heide knight sword that has lightning enhancement by def.
Bate him to do the forward fire attack, run under for the left or right and get a couple of hits on his legs. Don't get greedy, as soon as he stop the forward flame attack, go in front of his him and try to bate him into doing it again.
He will then:
a) either swing his head, which you can avoid by rolling pretty easily;
b) either start flapping his wings and do a AoE attack by flying up and blasting fire, which you can avoid by getting the f@#$ out of there as soon as you see his wings move and run towards the edge of the platform
c) either he will cock his head and start spitting a cone of fire in front of him, as soon as you notice his head doing that, start running either to the left or right towards his front leg and start pounding him until you nice him finishing the flame attack
d) repeat
c) profit and smash a beer keg on you head to celebrate the victory!
I might take some time until you get the timing right but don't give up and don't try it between sessions, take a break if you need one, but keep going back as with each consecutive run you'll get more familiar with his patterns and less intimidated by his as a boss. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I managed to kill the smelter demon on my first attempt but I did have a couple of online peeps with me
My character is seriously armoured in 'Havel's' armour and as I get killed in one flame blast, I did think what is the point in being slowed down with armour. I wasnt aware of the lightning weakness but I will give the naked run a go! Also if Im not hollow I can summon an NPC which I can sometimes use as bait!
Im pretty sure all the beer kegs around here are made of steel or something so that wont be the way I celebrate lol.
I found that NPC phantoms just mess things up more than help. They make it so that the bosses movements/attacks are unpredictable, and in this case will give you a hard time baiting that fire breath attack you want out of the dragon, since the npc will constantly sit beneath the dragon and attack him -- and in order for the dragon to use that fire breath attack, you need to step away and be in front of him -- until he dies, which he will and pretty fast too.
Player summons should prove more useful, if they know what they're doing.

1.Dress up as a Hollow Royal Soldier in the Forest of Fallen Giants.
2.Apply their skin tone.
3.Lure the original enemies out and kill them.
4.Take their spot.
5.Wait for other players to invade.
Today, Bandai Namco revealed that its smash-hit dungeon-crawling RPG, Dark Souls II, will be receiving a meaty DLC pack called The Lost Crowns.
The Lost Crowns is a compilation of three new "DLC chapters" that will kick off with Crown of the Sunken King, which will be available on all three platforms on July 22nd. It'll be followed by Crown of the Old Iron King on August 26th, and Crown of the Ivory King on September 24th. All release dates are North American.
Here's a description of the first DLC pack in the trilogy -- the Crown of the Sunken King -- directly from Bandai Namco:
Crown of the Sunken King, the first chapter in the trilogy, sends players on a journey to reclaim the crowns that Drangleic’s King Vendrick once owned. Crown of the Sunken King features an entirely different world within the Dark Souls II universe, where stepped pyramids span a vast underground cavern. It is said that one of the ancient crowns lay buried deep within these dark caverns; but surely such a valued item cannot sit unguarded. Players that seek adversity and glory will be rewarded with a crown that holds the strength of lords from times long past.
Each of the three chapters in The Lost Crowns trilogy will cost $9.99, but a season pass will net you all three for $24.99.
So I got Crown of the Sunken King. The download was 100kb so I assume the content was already there at retail? Having said that when I launched the game there was a 699mb download so maybe that was the DLC.
Spoiler:
I thought it would be obvious how to make use of it. I had a new key added to my inventory but I had to go searching. I checked the back of the monument in Majula where the text was worn off previously but now it has a message referring to Black Gulch. So I traverse to Black Gulch, explore the whole area but find nothing. Ive upgraded the area to level 2 using a bonfire ascetic but havent defeated the boss since. So I Google and discover I need to go through the boss room to get to the new DLC! FFS! So I need to defeat the level 2 Rotten! I have no chance on my own! So now Im waiting to get a bunch of people to help! The point is Im annoyed I cant immediately get to what I paid for ... gah! It is Dark Souls 2 and I guess nothing is meant to be easy :/
