Yeah. It seems this year they fucked it up royally. Dev server only, people say who got it that there is no snail in arcade, and those who want to get the dev build won't finish for days because of the sudden rush of bandwidth-eaters.
Real shame, last year's joke was amazing, this year, it's botched. :/
EDIT: it seems it's a random arcade thing, and even if the teams take it down, it's very underwhelming. Seems ponies were better.
So far, it's far from worse or better than WOT. It's different. While you there are instances in WoT, where you can just say "meh, I have enough HP, I can afford to be shot", here it's much more dangerous and you have to stay hidden if you want to survive. Just as in reality, a well placed shot can kill any tank and there's no HP to soak up shots that would have killed.
This is far from the WoWP vs WT non-contest. With tanks, there is room for some great competition between the 2 dev teams.
Having unlocked about 5-6 tanks already, I can safely say that this just might make my WoT account retire, at least for a while.
The tanks are much better modeled in terms of internal systems. You can't just knock out the tracks as a single unit, you can damage all sorts of parts that deal with the tracks (like suspensions). If your turret gets so jammed that it cannot be repaired on the field, you have to turn the entire tank to line up shots, and if you land a shot that bends the enemy's turret, their next shot will blow the whole thing out (think of those tubes blown 4 ways, all curled up http://www.gunslot.com/files/gunslot/imagecache/page/images/58032.jpg ). I had this happen to an enemy. Scored a few HE hits on his turret mount, and after the smoke settled from my view, his barrel was all mangled up. There is no single, all-encompassing "engine" compartment that you can knock out for a few seconds, if it's fucked, it's fucked.
Also, if a damage is repairable (mostly just the tracks, apart from fires), you have to stop altogether, and have the entire crew work on the problem, damaged stuff don't magically fix themselves, while everyone keeps doing their original job in the crew.
So damage modeling is lighyears ahead.
Like the aiming a bit more here too. In WoT, you point and the gun automatically compensates for shell-drop. Here, you have to aim high yourself. Not sure about the green-yellow-red crosshairs in arcade though (no such thing in realistic), they seem to indicate where I can penetrate best, but I scored killing blows on red, and bounces on green. I'd prefer a neutral color to indicate that you'll hit, but not telling how likely you'll penetrate. That'd compensate for the lack of line-of-sight concealment as of right now.
Right now, WoT has the upper hand in terms of tank customization, and their new 9.0 graphics look rather neat, but I find the WT tank battles' approach better.
Yeah, I know about the repair tools, but never got around to try them, since all the turret damage I ever received were before I unlocked them. Somehow after they become available, nobody manages to go for my turret motors.
Also know about 9.0, something I look forward to a lot. Although I'm much more interested in the actual tank handling physics rather than playing football with blown off turrets.
Now that I checked the replay, I noticed that the barrel blew out early in the engagement, and I was popping in and out of cover for nothing. I even blew their tracks off twice, but the KV1 is a hardy beast, and the enemy team flanked me before I could land the killing shot.
Anyhow, managed to make it happen again against a tier 1 tank destroyer during today's test. My shot damaged it, their shot blew it up.
I'll be on later too, just wanted to cram in a bit of pew-pew before my afternoon nap.
haha, I suspected I added u..the chat icon isnt very noticeable..I just got my Typhoon B(first tier III plane I got) and I hit that succes melancholy so Ive been playing a bit with all countries today lol
8 out of 10 dentists prefer zipfero to competing brands(fraich3 and Mutantius)!
Not really, they can play in the same matches, with AA vehicles shooting planes and bombers killing tanks.
Anyhow, don't get your hopes up, there are no ground forces on the live server yet. They will only be available for the people who have CBT access, and only in event-mode that isn't activated yet. Open beta for tanks in still a long way away.
I happen to have a CBT key so I guess i'll jump straight to that, this or that.
seeing there was launchers for CBT and War thunder, I guess they installed separately.

Tried it out few days ago, liked it quite a bit, but I don't have a decent control setup for me to really enjoy it. (Controller is bullshit and Keyboard just isn't enough imo)
Now that is what I call "well played". The hei could have done the same a few times, but he was just too fast and over shot.

Controller really is pure bullshit. But don't bother with just keyboard. Use the mouse!
Use mouse aim to point yourself in a general direction, or for precise aiming, and use the keyboard for doing snap maneuvers, like loops, barrel rolls, etc. Keyboard alone will not get you very far.
EDIT: this is pretty much what I use. Arrived at it by myself, but good to see my choice validated by others.
It's an older version of the game, but the basic idea applies.
I just feel like I'm not doing it justice without a proper flightstick/HOTAS set up. Probably gonna give it a proper go when I decide on the setup I'll be getting for SC and Elite.
If they get the tank/aa part first then I'll hop into that part. Loved playing Battleground Europe for a while and seems they are going that direction.

Well, that's what's good about this. Noobs and casuals can play arcade/realistic with mouse aim, and hardcore propellerheads can play simulator battles with a flightstick. Everyone's happy.
Anyhow, I'm incredibly burned out on the planes right now, hopping in maybe once a week to play a match or two with Zip or the PA guys, but ATM my main interest is in the ground forces. Good thing the test server is only open every other day for a few hours. The only thing that keeps me from playing more than 3-4 matches in every testing period is that my progress will be wiped anyways, so I really just try to test stuff and break the game.
Too bad that the live-server events for tanks will only go live next week (I guess they want to test how the game deals with massive air presence above tanks), and I'll be in London by then, and won't be able to play until I can buy a decent laptop. Maybe they'll move it into open beta by then so I can jump in Panzers blazing.
