I didn't even realize it still existed. I think the last time I used it was in Battlefield 1942.

It's a bit... Odd. Apparently, GS is used for a Streetfighter game on the PS3 (Third Strike Online). The NWN1 servers they ran are already down? And I read somewhere that it was used for Civ4 (though that seems unlikely). Not sure how easy it is to circumvent on some games, but still...

Both GFWL and GameSpy servers and match-making are being closed, which really only leaves... Punkbuster and Steam as viable online server systems?

List of affected titles up to 2010 only. This covers all formats, so I don't know if someone wants to post a thread in the Console Section with this link.

http://www.poweredbygamespy.com/projects/2010-titles/

Edit: No more Civ 4 multi? Anyone confirm it can be circumvented?

Yes, it's used for both Civ3 and Civ4.
Of course, there is still direct IP option to play MP, but match making will become more complicated.

Classic BF titles will switch over to Origin, which is good news for those that still play BF1942, BF2 and BF2142.

Subject: Crysis and Crysis 2 PC Multiplayer Modes Set to Shut Down

Hi all,

There has been a bit of discussion surrounding the ceasing of operations at Gamespy, and we wanted to take the opportunity to clear the air a bit as it were, by providing some informaiton on the whole topic;

As of May 31 this year, the multiplayer modes in Crysis and Crysis 2 for PC will no longer be playable. The conclusion of online multiplayer support comes as a result of GameSpy Technology shutting down all their hosting services. GameSpy have been providing multiplayer functionality for Crysis and Crysis 2 since they launched. The single-player campaigns in both games are unaffected by this transition, and the multiplayer mode in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 versions of Crysis 2 remain playable.

We'd like to thank everyone who has taken up arms in Crysis and Crysis 2's multiplayer modes in the last few years, and apologize to the small but dedicated community of PC players who are still actively competing against one another.

I always preferred the all seeing eye to gamespy since it was a simple proggy that found servers instead of an overbloated proggy like GS.

There goes Battlefront 2 and Empire at War as well. Even though they're still loved by many, I guess they're just too old to bother going back and hammering in a new MP backend.

~edit~

Doh! I forgot about Game Ranger. Should still be okay then Very Happy
