Try this and see if you get the same problem
install the game with DTOOLS
=
download this
http://files.cdmediaworld.com/VirtualCDHide%20v1.0.0.4.rar
=
install it and after that you will see some small icon (@ your windows clock )
right click on it and disable all virtual drives...
=
Now go to your FEAR shortcut on your desktop , rightclick on it... go to compatibility and click on run this program in compatibility mode for:
windows 2000...
===
click on apply and run the game from the shortcut...
As far as i know, the only "differrent" thing you have that most of us dont, its a P5 motherboard

I love how all of you are using all sorts of crap to get it to work.
It's really fucking simple.
GET GOOD MEDIA. GET A GOOD BURNER. GET A GOOD READER.
Burn with a120 and include RMPS. Turn on RMPS mode in a120. Play.
Simple.

running virtual cd hide and win2000 compat mode is much easier and quicker than your "fucking simple" method.look at the number of steps you have compared to get virtual cd hide, run it. set shortcut to win2000 compat and play.( waste good media on a game that works mounted, no thanks).

Whoever has played through this game and still think it's "WOW!" is fooling him/herself.
This game is an average FPS, period. |
Gotta agree with that. The comparison w/ HL² seems inevitable.
Yet HL² was superior in almost every ways :
- Level design.
- Diversity of situations.
- Clever use of physics. (though not enough maybe).
- Fun and richness of gameplay.
Actually playing FEAR made me want to play HL² again \o/, or SWAT 4, for a *real* strategy shooter.
But as everyone tends to agree, there are a couple of areas in which FEAR excels :
- AI.
- Intense gunfights.
- Graphics. *
* Then again, I play it w/ a Athlon 2000+ and a 9600xt at 800x600 - everything 'Medium'.
Both HL² and D3 ran *much* better on my rig ( especially for D3 <- Not everyone can code like Carmak : D ), while being as visually impressive, if not more.
On the other hand I'm looking forward to online play, which should be really good.
edit : sorry for my bad english. |
i like this game but no sorry with everything maxed, the gfx are NOT better than HL2.

And you've got a 3Ghz+ with 7800GT/GTX or ATI X800, pumbertot.1? If not, don't start saying which has better graphics.

Is it possible to get the game to work with 1360x768 and widescreen ? Would like to play it on my TV . Serious Sam II and COD 2 Demo work like a charm with this resolution.

surprise... monolith is said to be working on the first fear expansion pack.
this how things goes today, u sell half a game with 10 hours gameplay for 49.95 then u make an expansion that actually complete the first game and sell the new 6-8 hours of gameplay for additional 29.95 -----> full game $79.90
i still remember the good old far cry days :sigh

Which method are u using to start FEAR ?
What works for me is :
- mds+mdf file mounted with alcohol (with RMPS emulation ON)
- start SR7_stop and click hide -> the alcohol virtual drive is now hidden
- close SR7_stop
- start FEAR executable.
Works fine even with the 1.01 patched version.

I don't really know much about the kinds of security that are used these days, but can we expect a cracked version soon?

for sure u can count on a clone version today. max tomorrow.
a cracked version is something we can't predict atm since safedisc is not crackable anymore... even if activision - quake4 publisher - is the only one that recently used the "weak" version of safedisc (spiderman and xmen).

Permanent crashes! I can play just 3 - 5 minutes. After that the screen goes black OR filled with artifacts, soundcard slightly beeps and I gotta reboot. Memory leak? Gfx driver issue?
I have GeForce 6800GT on nForce2 chipset with AMD XP 2800+ and 1GB Ram.
Forceware 77.77, I tried also 81.84 but it was the same.
My method: SR7_stop and Alcohol.
Some people say it crashes due to SecuROM 7 but I think it's a driver issue.

Code: | Description
The Patch includes updates and optimizations necessary for the multiplayer version of F.E.A.R. Full patch notes below:
Global:
* Fixed a problem where players could fall under the map after pressing ESC while climbing a ladder.
* Fixed a bug where water FX would play where there was no water in the "Heavy Resistance" level.
Multiplayer:
* Fixed the Game Type filter on the server browser screen.
* Fixed broken ladder animations.
* Spectator "Fly" mode now works as intended.
* SlowMo Score Time is now reported through the in-game server browser for SlowMo CTF games.
* Fixed a problem where players would sometimes spawn into Team Elimination games as a neutral player.
* Team Elimination servers will no longer advance to the next round if you are the first to join and then switch teams.
* Dead players will no longer win the round in Elimination game types if they have the highest score when time runs out.
* The score tally on the HUD now works properly in all Elimination game types.
* Remote clients can no longer log into SCMD on hosted games as original intended. SCMD still works as before on dedicated servers.
* The weapon of the player you are watching will no longer appear on the screen when using the "Follow" spectator mode.
* Fixed problem with grenades getting stuck on or bouncing off of breakable windows in certain levels.
* Further optimized performance and fixed minor lighting and art bugs in the Streets CTF level. |
they forgot to add that it optimizes the SP too
