Actually, both diagrams look incorrect. My father had a slingshot when I was young and I'd hold it in front of my face but use my arm like in the 2nd diagram. Where you're drawing it back from shouldn't matter so long as you're aiming properly and so that it's not going to slap your face when you let go.
No, you're wrong. The ball will fly according to the vector set by the silicone thing. If you aim with the slingshot in front of your face and pull it at an angle it will go left not straight. Tried this today with 100+ steel balls. Most success was when shooting blindly based on feelings/intuition.
