Maybe my view on hitchhiking is too much distorted by Hollywood.
You work at a lasertag thing.... I highly doubt anyone would take it that serious that they can't give you a week off

There is no clearing for work here. I'm never allowed to take a time off, so it would be doomed to fail. So fun finishing my shift at 5 AM only to be called back at 8 AM.

say the truff if this is something you want to do. do it.
if boss is an asshole and says no say you quit. you can always find another job. a chance like this, comes once in a lifetime (unless you fail and you go on the 7th annual hitchhiking trip)
if you're qualified at the job you're at, you can easily find another.
I hate bosses who want everyone else at their job to be as miserable as they are whilst taking every single advantage they can (extra days off work because fuck you im the boss, extra days on vacations because fuck you im the boss)
No point lying to your boss. You'll come back tanned, with a little weight loss... he'll know you weren't trapped in your house with the flu, he'll know you didn't get a sex change, he'll demand a doctors note if you're sick, if he cares and sends someone over to double check on you and you're not there, he'll fire your ass. Honesty is the best thing. Lay it down as something you really want to do. It's a once in a life time kind of thing. and you really want to do it. If he goes all NOPE fuck you we has reports because i'm going on vacation on that day and we need extra man power here because everyone is a fucking idiot... you smack him in the face and say that you quit. When you come back you join the rival company and spill all the secrets you know. In turn burning the old bosses company down to a pile of ashes. Then when he's on his knees bankrupt being thrown out of his house you drive by in your new car, you look at him in the eye and give him your business card.

Isn't there a way to talk to your boss like a decent human being? As in: hey, I worked without a vacation for the past x months, even did some overtime, I'd really like to take a week off to chillax for a bit, would that be alright with you?
If talking doesn't really help you are pretty much fucked, especially since you apparently already told him about the event and he declined. And when you then just happen to be sick for that exact week, every moron can figure out that you are not actually sick.

I'm not legally employed, I wouldn't even know where to begin describing how hard he tries to rip off the 'our IRS equivalent' to make as much as he possibly can It's actually funny how hard I could fuck him up with little to no effort.
I didn't tell him anything yet. The problem is the week I would take off is around may-day, a time he would most likely have plans for with his gf(that I hooked him up with  ).
The asshole plan would be to keep working until the last day before the trip and then quit abruptly. Somewhat better version would be to fake some sick leave note from a doctor(not being legally employed he would have no way of checking that). Ooooor just actually try to talk to him and hope he's a somewhat decent human being and that he would give me the week off, or at least let me work until then. Until he finds a replacement.
