Nonsense. Name one device that ended up like that, where the users could only play "shady indie home brew stuff". Ipad / iOS? No. Xbox, no. Any of the Nintendo devices since SNES? No.

its a good thing, gotta remember Valve has a huge interest in being the content provider when it comes to pc gaming. So if facebook starts to create a closed product I would think valve would step up and step up fast to deliver something to compete. The huge advantage to this type of market is its similar to the cell phone market (everyone gets a new phone every 1-3 years) so the killer VR experience could be oculus one day valve the next. If anyone has the ability to pull people in its valve and its in their interest to keep the ecosystem alive.

Angsty teenage Oculus fanboys may cancel their DK2 orders. Any reasonable VR enthusiast will definitely not. I've been waiting for VR for a couple decades now and I'm too old to miss out on the VR revolution to prove a point. Whoever puts out the best VR headset will get my money, and in July of 2014 that will be Oculus's DK2.

Get the DK2, experience the vr and if you sell before the cv1 your going to get your money back. I think the demand will be just as high as the dv1 was, maybe even more so with the recent publicity. So then either buy a PS4 with the money or keep it back for when they release the customer version. And if it ends up facebloat then wait for oculus alternative and buy PS4. Win win

yeah prolly. I am very excited for it even tho I own dk1.
I just want vrcinema in high resolution and better screen/colours. this + dolby headphones is incredivle even on dk1... its jsut that terrible res is too distracting to really use it. And dk1 dont have black... contrast is terrible and black is grey (yes. its set to full rgb). Thankfully amoled in dk2 which have great blacks !!!

Wow you are daft. You're comparing the Rift, a device which needs games designed around its premise, to console platforms which merely had their copy protection removed. Can you say "stupid"?
And if you want a PROPER example, how about the Wiimote on PC huh? We sure have a LOT of games that support that *dripping with sarcasm* Yeah it got hacked, yeah it works in the Wii emulator ... and for a few homebrew games. So yeah, give it up - what you said was nonsense and I called you out on it - be a man and take it. If Rift gets shifted from its gaming path, a cracked Rift would be as good as useless.

you've probably tested all the games that were available to play on dk1 so I don't imagine you'll get anything more out of dk2 other than resolution, contrast etc.
so if I were you i'd buy ps4 and wait for full release of any vr thingy.

killercrocker, even the 1080p arent enough so the experience wont be that different from dk1, i say buy a ps4 if you really need to spend money.

Wiimote is a terrible example since it never had any official support for PC games. You are making some pretty big assumptions that you have absolutely no proof of. Just because something is cracked doesnt mean all official support suddenly disappears completely. Name calling seems pretty unnecessary..
The closest thing we have to Rift is TrackIR, a device with very little support since most people did not buy it. It's not made by a big company so it's rather expensive too, mainstream gamers have never heard of it. A "hardcore" gaming device with little to no support is absolutely no fun at all. Rifts success lies in it becoming so mainstream (+ cheap) that we will see support for a lot of games, maybe even most games. What type of annoyances FB will add remains to be seen.

What's the FOV of OR? 90 degrees seems a little low.

Sure it could, within limits ofcourse since the games that would benefit from it are limited to FPS and simulators mainly.
Kinect etc does have good support for games that benefits from that type of thing. TrackIR did not reach that type of success on PC, the number of units sold would pale in comparison.
