Shrine of amana was quite tough for str/dex character. The level was quite good, it makes me sad at times thinking how much better would have looked if the graphics waren't all that stripped, compared to the old build. Sad

I am a DEX/END/ADAPT build and i found Shrine of Amana pretty easy. The secret is a good bow with range and poison arrows (or any kind of arrows for that matter but poison work well against casters)

Hunter Blackbow + Hawk Ring + Poison Arrows = Amana owned. I think i died only twice. Plus the boss is a joke. But i understand that a character not having access to a good bow , range magic or whatever may struggle in that level. Pure melee with no range must be a nightmare

^ yeah i don't use magic at all, just have one slot for pyro for close ranged battles and that's all. It's more satisfying that way imo. I get that most of the people saying the game is really easy are playing as mages.

So I played this game for another hour last night and I have to say its growing on me. Visually the start is disappointing but there are some areas which look to be on the same level as the previous games. One thing I cannot work out is how the hell do you assign items to the d-pad!?

you cant freely assign stuff to dpad, left and right are weapons/shields/catalysts, up are miracles/spells, down are items.
in the equipment screen you can equip several weapons and shields for the left adn right buttons so you can switch them (though i wouldnt advise overdoing this since it adds to your total weight), then you can select spells for up and mark the items you want to be able to switch through with down.

Ok for example. I start the game and I have life gems assigned to the d-pad. I use all of them and I then obtain more but cannot get them to display in the bottom left corner. So whenever I want to use a life gem, I have to go into the menus to use it?

Also I found some binoculars which I cannot use. Is this because they need to be assigned? Theres something real simple that Im missing here. Maybe Ill just RTFM Razz

Cool thanks very much Smile

So Ive looked past the visuals and Im beginning to see a decent game and why I loved Demon Souls and the first Dark Souls.

Is it possible to compare my current equipment stats with the stats for the wares of a merchant without having to stop talking to the merchant to check my inventory?!

Ancient Dragon is down, wasn't as hard as most of the people say. Just take off all of the armor and get the Great Club or other similar weapon to +10. He is slow as turtle. Right at the start sprint to his left or right hand and do few hits. After that he will: 1. look at you - in this case go to his other hand and do few hits, or 2. he starts to move his wings, which means you should sprint back to the door from where you come. It's basically this, sometimes it won't work, since he will get close to the door, but managed to beat him after 10 tries. Smile

Now i'm collecting some magics for few achievements and right after that jumping into NG+. So Much Win

btw After you buy Falconer set from Maughlin the Armourer in Majula, he stock up some good things like Looking Glass knight set, Smelter Demon set, Elite Knight set etc.
There is a lot of armor/weapons in this game. :0

I don't know if this game is easier than DS1, or if DS1 just felt harder because I didn't know the game mechanics, but I'm finding the later parts of the game easier and easier. Just beat the two dragonriders and the Looking Glass Knight on first try, in DS1 beating a boss so late in the game on first try was a miracle... I don't know, I feel less and less challenged the more the game goes on.

Actually it does seem so now. After getting my ass beat, I remade a char and went with a good shield. Now I rarely struggle against bosses, but I'm only halfwway through ( I think) so everything can change. A group of normal enemies are by far more dangerous then any boss I have encountered so far.

But even in DS1 bosses weren't that hard after you learned their pattern. Even supercharged orstein was very predictable, just a bit faster. The bosses I struggled the most were Kalameet and Manus.

Well its always about patterns in the end, isnt it?

The bosses in this one grew better. And by the end two bosses that were hard. Both of them not needed to beat the game. Dragon is one of them. the old fucker the other.

Btw, the game grew and grew up until the very end. A good 70 hours exploring.

This soul count for pvp sounds devastating though...

But some are way more predictable than others. I struggled with Manus because he was fast and had several attacks that he did in no particular order. So you had to watch him and read what his attack will be. But then you have someone like the spider queen. 3 easily dodgeable slashes in a row, lava spit, and the magic attack. Very easy.

What I don't like so far is NPC invaders invade you in the most inconvenient places to get their loot. So far 2 out of 3 npc invaders killed themselves by jumping off some cliff so that I can't get any drops. And 3rd didn't kill himself only because there was no place for him to jump (though he did go through a hole in the floor and went to the 1st floor).

can't remember getting any loot from the invaders. In the first game it said what you got after defeating it, but here it just says invader vanquished or something like that and nothing after that.

Their drop rate is not 100% like in DS1, but they do have a chance to drop their equipment. But if they just jump off, I don't even have 1% of getting their loot.

Their drop rate is only 1% and they have more than one item. Add that you encounter these NPC phantoms only once per playthrough...I hate such a things in rpgs.

The only place that make me use poison arrows and i don't even feel bad about that( hell i even beat Shrine of Armana without cheesing it, pretty fun level, even for str character, when you learn the enemy placement). Laughing
Seriously, these are life saver there if you are not playing as magic build. The boss is really weak to fire, i only will say that.

Beat the final boss after roughly 75 hours at level 133.
Melee dex build using a little faith for heals early on and normal lightning spear.
Decided to do everything solo and it worked out so far, no help from NPCs or players for anything and no guides.

Still got a little bit of optional stuff left including 2 bosses I believe and some cleanup, then it's on to new game +.
Dark chasm of old is done aside from the boss, looks like it might be a tough one.

So excited to try out some new builds and see what NG+ has to offer!

there is no level cap per se, but every stat maxes out at 99, to reach that with all stats you would have to be above level 700.
