I'd like to start a generic race sim thread, so we don't have to spam anything racesim related into the "project cars" thread.
I think it makes sense.
"There will be no end to the troubles of humanity, until philosophers become kings, or kings become philosophers.", Plato.
"Hyperbole will destroy us all.", Matt Dillahunty.
"The hyperbole, the demonization of the other opinion and the unwillingness to even read the opposing opinion destroys the so important political discussions necessary for the well functioning of society.", Couleur
Yep, it's an evolution over the isiMotor2 engine which has been powering all the Simbin games since 2005/06, so it's not a coincidence
In its current state it's definitely an unfinished product with not-so-sexy visuals, but people like it for the physics, very good ffb and real road feature, and free modding of course (there's a great community behind).
Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to test it on a proper steering wheel since mine died months ago, and I'm left with the 360 gamepad..which doesn't really like the game (although it's playable with some efforts). I enjoyed the few laps that I've done though^^
And it's been cracked!
Game.Stock.Car.Extreme.2013-HI2U
The game is really good
The Extreme version also added lots of new contents and even some European tracks (many of them however can be downloaded from Nogripracing/Racedepartment)

I managed a 02:11.888 on Mugello using the 458 Italia (STD, not Stage3) in timeattack mode, AssettoCorsa.
(All driving aides off, stability controll 0%, tyre wear 1x)
Pretty proud of it, because I kinda had to fight very hard for it. (compared to other games,...)
Would anybody like to compare laptimes??
HA!
You made me go and check, and look what I found
Aids were all disabled, but! I used the auto transmission like a noobcake. I'm on the 360 controller though, so I can be excused xD
Wednesday evening some colleagues organized an evening and I collected my computer, MY GT3 RS wheel () and went to present the noobcakes PCars.
We had some problems with the setup and he had a G27 mounted on a racing frame, so we just went with it and the pcars experience was mediocre :/ So the host switched to present us Need for Speed Rivals on the PS4. Surprisingly nobody was impressed So they went on to start Gran Turismo 6 and in the meantime I took my sweet time to properly setup my computer at the big fat eizo with proper settings and of course the GT3 wheel.
I fired up the right track with the right car and the boys joined in on the fun one after another. One of my colleagues hadn't played any computer game in the last 5-6 years and after one race with pcars he looked to the 100"projection and said "this looks like fucking nintendo" at GT6
All my colleagues now asked when PCars will be out and they fell in love with the M1 Procar
Still, most people (including me) will prefer GT/Forza over any PC racing game, just because of the cars. Thats the biggest problem of the PC racing games, imo. The lack of cars. For example, I really love Shit 2 + some particular mods. The vanilla is crap, we all know it, but with the right mods it becomes really decent racing game, I can even compare it with GRID 1 in term of responsiveness and such. BUT it lacks cars and I see myself going back to GT/Forza. Its the same with Assetto Corsa too - AWESOME handling model and car physics overall but again - there are no cars to choose from. If you like "street" cars like me, you are screwed because besides the E30 there aren't any.
Well there are quite some steet cars but all of them are beasts Though I'd also like some normal car and a bit of traffic on the non race tracks, but PCars budget isn't the same as GTs or Forzas

u wot m8, AC has more street cars then race cars, so check again if you even own the game...
You know what there are different classes on the track right? They don't just throw all cars on the track to race each other. Some people prefer to race with RX7, 200SX, S3, WRX, and cars like these, not with Pagani Huayra, Ferrari 458 Italia, McLaren MP4 12C and other spaceship type cars. Just because some super car have interior, that doesn't make it "street" car, imo. Yeah, it may be street legal, but you won't see such cars on your local time attack/drift/autocross/whatever events. With street car, personally, I understand a car that you can see everyday and its affordable by your 20-30yo average joe.

The "problem" though, is that all these games don't have career modes like Gran Turismo/Forza, so you'll be forced to organize single week-ends with no advancements and stuff like that. As far as I know, Shift is the only PC game that comes close to that concept, and it's a shame.

Yeah, but I dont really like the custom cars & tracks in rFactor (2). It's all good and nice to see they have this variety, until you actually download and try one usermade car. :/
Yep, they're still a tad unripe. We need patience and good ones will arrive ;(
