"I've decided to break out on my own to have the freedom to make the kind of games I really want to make – the same kind I think fans of my past games want as well,"
We needed to make a change, so we did. The Castlevania series wasn't going anywhere, sales were dwindling and it was appealing only to a very small, hardcore fanbase. That's how franchises die... We have to take these risks if Castlevania is to survive, otherwise it's just going to be like Mega Man."
This DLC better not have fucking stealth sections. At first I thought it was only there because "Dracula" was still weak so I let it slide. Then there is the possession ability, which was just boring gimmick. But I was till fine with this game because they are sparse. And THEN the fucking witch. Why am I hiding from her, only to kill her soon later with no power ups? But I still forgave them because there was fail states rather than instant game over or restart, just like the rats section where you have 9 lives.
Until that druid like creature. Fuck this game. Why is this in the game? There are already tons of little things that slows this fast action game down poorly, there is no need for stealth. Why can't I just fucking kill him?
A vampire without some sort of chest armor or harness seems a bit silly (Wooden stake + crossbow.), then again it kinda reminds me of 70's or 80's action heroes trying to be all buff and manly by removing their shirts.
Great talk from Iga, the guy is incredible and I absolutely *adore* his take on the Castlevania series. I hope to see a Keiji Inafune-esque plan from him, in that he makes the Castlevania game we all want, but isn't called Castlevania.. just like Keiji's "Might No(t Mega-Man honest) 9
Playing Lords of shadow 1 atm. Great atmosphere, epic narrator, cool graphics, all signs of a top list contender...
end then static cams, and atrocious combat.
Areas you can't come back to without replaying a level. And no i don't mean currently unreachable items until you level up.
I can't stop playing, and then I reach a stupid part and quit.
Combat is tedious and i'm on chapter 2 only. Constant rolling, million button presses and pretty much anything I mash ends up a combo
With dark souls type of combat, would be amazing.
Then there are the checkpoints that are set before a cut scene, that you always have to confirm you want to skip,
and you have to confirm you want to reload a checkpoint even if dead.
This in a game where you can die a lot,
particularly if you are at a checkpoint with 1 hit of life left.
Kingdoms of amalur has better combat as an rpg focused game.
Will keep playing, but these flaws prevent it from being my top list candidate so far.
I particularly hate when I get to a point of no return by accident, and then bye bye items until replay..
Combat gets better. U @ chapter 2 arent allowed to have an opinion just yet !!
Still no way near as good as darksouls combat as thats on a completely different level and cant be matched by any other game
Combat turns from terrible to amazing actually. Its flaw is the fact that you barely have any moves in the beginning and then the more you get the more it's obvious that there's quite some thought put into it. Also, why do you both even think about comparing this combat-wise to Dark Souls? They aim for completely different things in that respect. One can't be better than the other. The static camera didn't bother me because it's static, I don't mind that unlike others. What bothered me about it is that it's a bad static camera at times. The metroidvania aspect is really annoying in this one because it's level-based and it just makes no sense like that, but I managed to get over it, realizing that I'm actually not missing on that much since by the end of it I was pretty close to having most stuff maxed. I guess I'll get them the next time I play it if it's going to be a next time even.
And yeah, Chapter 2 is extremely early actually. The game is weirdly paced. It's pretty damn long and the content doesn't feel padded out for the sake of longevity, yet it does feel a bit too long at times.

I am simply not a huge fan on evil may cry type of combat. staying in air for 5 seconds and longer, juggling enemies mid air, etc.
Just looks ridiculous and not much fun to play imo.
I much prefer gritty melee combat a la blade of darkness and dark souls. That+ third person free look would make for a much better game.
While i was in the dungeon level in chapter 2, i instantly wished I could freely explore it, not with the crap static cam
Still a fantastic game, but i'm sure we all know that felling, when you have an awesome game, that you see could have been even better.
But a lot of what you're asking there put together would make it a completely different game and that's clearly not what they wanted to do with the series. It's supposed to be in the vein of God of War or even Darksiders in the case of the second one from what I've seen. You not liking it seems to me more like it isn't the game for you, rather than it should have been different... well, you say it should be better... that's the thing, what you want would not necessarily make it better, but different. Also, I think such combat definitely fits here. Where it doesn't fit is Kingdoms of Amalur which you love and I pretty much hated it because of exactly that actually, the specticle fighter type of combat. I think it's very unfitting in a RPG like that is and that comes from a huge fan of games with such combat. I don't understand how you have a problem with it here, but not there.
Another thing I find very weird, funny and makes no sense to me. Remember Me and this are exactly the same kind of games and I keep seeing people that liked that and don't like this. This is the same formula but done a hell of a lot better, where with Remember Me the whole formula was completely wasted because... I don't know, rushed release?! No fucking clue really, but yeah, just a thing I've noticed.
I don't have a problem with it in amalur, since it's an rpg where you expect combat to be lackluster. when it has better combat then action games, then I can't complain about it even if its too arcadey for an rpg.
Remember me was a 10 hour game, so the flaws were tolerable. Its also sci-fi with artwork that could be posted in a gallery. That alone drove the game for me, it could have been a QTE fest ala Jurassic park, and I'd still call it a great game
I'm 10 hours in castlevania and on chapter 3, so naturally, i will notice flaws more as it will be a 50 hour game for me most likely.
I still love the game, I just listed things that would make it top shelf material for me, instead of simply a great game.
Combat and camera like arcania would be ideal for me in this game now that i think of it.
Slower but still kinetic, with a lot heavier attacks that you can feel.
The game was updated, exe and that data00.pack file.
(Some fixes perhaps like those mentioned in the first link and then possibly also DLC data for Revelations which is coming out soon.)
