Nothing at all wrong with Xinput itself, what's "worse" is that it's one single API owned and controlled/licensed by one corporation again. Just like DirectX. Personally I have no issues with it whatsoever as I love the unification but I know a lot of people aren't happy about one company controlling everything Smile

Yeah, because it is just one company and not a retarded committee that DirectX is the much better API between the two big ones. Smile

Regarding the Controller...

I assume people read Gaf, and, yes, it's just linking to a couple of posts there. But it might be there's some who haven't seen this, so:

Quote:
Over at Sonic Retro, there's a guy who happens to have one of the prototypes, and he's been talking about his experiences with it. In particular, one of the big points he makes is that the directional buttons aren't technically meant to be a d-pad. That job is meant for the trackpads, and he claims that they can work superbly well as such

Until I've held one and used it for myself, I refuse to believe anyone that claims a track pad (haptic feedback or not) can ever work as a dpad. I'll be happy to be proven wrong but nobody else's word will do that, only experience.

exactly, i can see it being functional for fps uses of dpad, ie weapon/item changing etc.,
but playing a fighter on it? fuck no Laughing

Yeah, I want to see for myself too. Gamepads are just like mice, ergonomics are a huge deal and what works for one person doesn't work for another.

Been playing Left Behind (So Much Win) with my DS4 and I've absolutely fallen in love with that thing. The DS3 feels bloody tiny now, whereas the 360 controller now feels incredibly bulky and cheap at the same time. And the d-pad just feels even worse than it already did Laughing

Take one grain of salt (large), and read article.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/04/11/source-steam-controller-will-be-available-in-october-or-november/

On the flip-side, they've iterated it quite a lot in the past 6 months, so it doesn't seem too far-fetched that it'll be out 6 months down the line. Smile

No, not yet... To be honest, if it does get a release October/November, I wouldn't expect pricing info (or even rumours about pricing) to come until August/September. Sad

Damn you Special Little Man, I want a DS4 controller as well! Very Happy Too damned expensive for now (£55 is just nuts) but I really do want one, they seem to have improved on the DS3 in every way.

Realistically, we're now looking at a release window of 2015, not 2014.
