The new dmc, was so derp'd that even button mashing would combo. The two weapon system felt like they were added to add life to the game and difficulty. At best they failed and the slow/repetitive combat system was a failure.(Personal Opinion)
Stealth sections really made me go WTF.

I'm quite liking the game and I think that the reviews were too harsh with this one, but somehow I can't unsee how bipolar this sequel is. It's the Carrie Mathison of action games, kinda unsettling and makes me feel uncomfortable at times.
It manages to go from bloody great to annoying in a matter of minutes, and always does that periodically..it's a shame. Combat feels more refined in a streamline-y way, graphics are surprisingly good considering that it's an "oldgen" game (I threw some sweetFX on top of it, always helps), bosses are great, the new camera is okay (I liked the old one too to be honest, I must be a weirdo), same for the responsive mouse controls..and yet there's always that sense of incompleteness and incoherence which often spoils the fun. The linear boring modern day sections and Splinter Rat sequences are to blame, but it's not just that.
Still, aside from the poor design decisions, the formula is still entertaining for some brainless bashing&slashing visceral hearth-eating moments

The new DMC is top notch when it comes to the gameplay and the combat, its rly good, and contrary to this game, it cannot be played with a keyboard, you just cant pull off those insane combos (yes the game allows for 50 over hit combos ) without the gamepad, you just arent as fast to switch between weapons and do what is necessary with the keyboard.
That beeing said, the story in dmc is nothing special, and it has that emo crap going around, but man the gameplay is smooth and rly rly good, the only game that can rival that is bayonetta, anyone that says dmc has a bad story, or they dont like it, its fine, but it is by far the best gameplay in the genre..
This game got nothing on dmc, except the lore and the story, it is told in a interview with the vampire kind of way, and i like that, but the lvl design is so bad, elevators, going around the same places and parking lots over and over, the lvl design on DMC 5 is top notch its so good, varied and rich visualy, and it nevers bores you, every lvl in DMC has a different theme to it, its rly well thought out, the hatred towards that game is simply because its a reboot, but its a top notch beatem up on the third person.
Not to mention you spend like 15 hours unlocking the same combos in this game as in the first one, the new dmc had a new combat system right out of the gate with plenty of combos. This game from a combat perspective is kinda of a joke, even dmc 3 or 4 has more engaging combat than this.

Quick question: I'm at the point where you have to follow a violet trail to pursue some monster and the bearded guy that comes out of the cathedral, can anyone tell me how far into the game I am?

shit ending, epic conclusion my ass.
i was expecting some epic death tragic in the end, a real conclusion. the story can continue if they still want to.
the original ending Spoiler: | When Satan possesses Alucard, Gabril forces the combat cross inside him, killing his own son again, and the spirit of human Trevor Belmont is seen ascending to heaven smiling at his father; however, the Combat Cross was destroyed, thus letting Gabriel with no chance of ever reuniting with his family or die, Dracula starts screaming like a maniac on the ground and the brotherhood of light captures him (with him giving not resistence) and scenes are shown of them torturing him braveheart style for many centuries, tearing off limbs, cutting him with knives until the end of time while Gabriel never gets the peace he wants. |
this is how you end a saga, truly shame they didnt pick this one.
at least a dlc is coming so the voice of king of the north is not completly wasted.
I can see your soul at the edges of your eyes..

Completed the game, that was definitely a disappointment. Instead of improving after the first so-so hours, it became more repetitive and uninspired.
The level design was especially worse (much worse) if compared to LoS1, with barely no puzzles, even more linearity and streamlined platforming. The modern day era lost all the charm and atmosphere that was present in Los1, it felt rushed.
Same for the numerous stealth parts, out of the place, 100% scripted and with no freedom at all (not to mention the fact that they don't even make sense logically speaking). The story was also hit and miss, with some good moments and other cringe worthy ones.
Such a wasted potential... if LoS1 was a solid ~7,5/10 for me, this one sadly is a ~5,5/10.

Well a test branch is currently active so something is being prepared but it could be anything from DLC to a game update.
http://steamdb.info/app/239250/#section_history
(Well usually game updates do bring DLC compatibility, or in some cases the entire DLC although locked until release - unless cracked.)
EDIT: And revelations does have a entry already so it's going to be released, eventually.

Quote: | Lords of Shadow 2—the latest variation in Konami's long-running Castlevania series—let you play as Dracula. Its upcoming add-on will keeps it in the family, making the alpha vampire's albino spawn playable in the Revelations DLC.P
Set during the period where Dracula lay dormant for 1,000 years, Revelations will be a story-centric prequel to the events in Lords of Shadow 2's main storyline and will see Alucard using different powers and abilities:P
The DLC expands the incredible story of the recently-released sequel, with the fate of the Belmont clan unveiled. Alucard has his own unique, powerful abilities, including use of the Glaciem and Igneas powers, in addition to vampiric abilities which allow him to transform into a wolf, a swarm of bats and even turn back time. Blood also fuels capabilities, as drinking the blood of enemies will intensify immortal powers.P
No word on how much it'll cost to play as Dracula's good-vampire son but the DLC will be downloadable on Xbox Live, PSN and Steam. |

if only anybody would care about shitty MoF and LOS2, lol.
New Castlevania died without even making a proper start.
Good, I hope Konami will learn a lesson and get back to old good 2D series.

well its funny but, dark souls games are the closest to a true 3d symphony of the night or any other metroidvania, the huge amount of boss fights, the non-linear progression and interconnected areas with many shortcuts and secrets.
playing dks2 right now it feels much more like a 3d castlevania than los2.

Well, thats funny, because SoTN was an expanded concept of classical metroidvania (so-called "free-to-exploration-open-word") Simons' Quest which is as much "true castlevania" (lel), as possible
But that's okay, it is okay to pretend to know things and state your opinion as fact.

since sotn was released in 97, 2d castlevania games have mostly been like that, and its good that way since the old castlevania games pre-sotn were simple sidescrollers that could be completed in no time.
sotn is the most beloved castlevania game of all, whether you want to call it "true" castlevania or not.
it was a good evolution of the series that they time and time again tried to replicate in 3d form but failed.

Anyone who claims that SotN or the other exploration-based CV titles "aren't true CV titles" needs to be pointed and laughed at. Especially since, as already pointed out, Simon's Quest was exploration-based and SotN has long been heralded as one of the greatest entries in the series, likely equalled only by Rondo of Blood and SCIV. SotN (and all the GBA/NDS followups) were more "Castlevania" than this God of War-esque reboot bullshit ever will be.

Yeah, I wish at some point Igarashi would try to push and expand SoTN concept even more.
Oh well.
