Renegade was freakin' AWESOME! I played that to death on the C64, it was so much better than the home port of Double Dragon - Mastertronic version at least, I was in the UK and couldn't get the awesome Ocean version, which is strange since Ocean are a UK company - and the less said about Final Fight C64, the better Razz

Often times the illustration, be it cover or poster, was holding more of artistic value than the entire game/movie itself.

It's also funny how shamelessly and hilariously sexist some of the B-movie stuff was back then.

Just read: "In 2021 all women are slaves! All men are their masters!" Fully explicit. Very Happy

Retro sci-fi art by John Harris.

You think of retro hard sci-fi, you think of John Harris' work.

(Trust me, you do; even if you think you don't.)

HUGE megalithic structures, soaring towers, blazing stars, futuristic landscapes, gigantic machinery, uncharted alien worlds... Dark, gritty, unsettling.

And among all those things - human. Small, insignificant. Overwhelmed by the sheer MASS and SIZE of its surroundings.

==========================

Let's not forget about mysticism.

We don't look at the stars without a reason. We want to explore, seek ... Find! Find something significant, important, meaningful. Knowledge? God?

As if the primitive old civilizations held a stronger bond with some ancient powerful force that now hides away from us deeply within the skies.

==========================

Universe is there. With all its miracles and WONDERs.

Waiting for us! Waiting to be discovered.

Haha! Very Happy Thanks for that comment! Razz

I've stumbled upon John Harris' work only recently while looking for some 80's sci-fi artworks. Then I started digging into it and was absolutely delighted by the quality of his paintings.

I think the fact that these are indeed real paintings makes them even more special. In late 70's / early 80's there obviously was no photoshop, so everything had to be done manually.

Only people really talented in arts were able to create something this unique. Right from the start; without copy/paste, select, apply filter, etc...

Here's imgur gallery link with many, many more amazing illustrations: http://nervousenergy.imgur.com/john_harris_new (<- Click it! Don't be shy! You know you want to. Wink)

And a tribute / homage by some present-day fan:

If you weren't too young for Blood Dragon, you're not too young for this.

However, here's a test for you:

What famous 80's action flick is the "Mark IV Style, motherfucker" GIF reference to?

I loved the older hand-painted (Or digitally painted.) box covers, actually boxes too instead of these slim plastic cd covers.

EDIT: There were exceptions of course, this one is pretty famous I believe.

I've been thinking for quite a while now how to reply to this post and... the best I can come up with is:
Rest assured that your anus will receive the best of care. Retro sci-fi is my new sexy so there most probably will be more. Smile Stay tuned!

Currently though. I'm working on firing up another pictures thread.

Headline quote samples:

She was as money hungry as they come - not even her husband was getting it for free.

For lust's sake!

They tried everything - with everyone!

All Ellen wanted from her man was more... and more often.

Connie begged him to take her body - even after she found out how he would use it.

"Church camp predator"

"Try my couch"

The incredible story of a man and a woman who loved like animals - and were destroyed the same way!

Beautiful and bored she threw a hen party that started with topless bathing suits and ended in bottomless depravity.
