So I just finished this game, basically just rushed the last chapter due to not finding this interesting, entertaining nor fun.
And well, this is not a good game. I'm so glad I waited for the yaaar version and tried it out and didn't just dump money on it.
Whoever had the great idea of using a hub system should be fired cause that really made me lose interest in the game. The graphics were actually quite nice, gave a cool atmosphere. However for no real reason I had stuttering from time to time which made it it all crap.
The story:
Spoiler: | Left me a bit confused to say the least. Either I missed stuff or I just didn't get it.
Where did Garret go for a whole year? Who was the old lady and how does she actually fit into the story?
Why the fuck did parts of the city just start to burn and fall into the earth?
Dunno, the story was just confusing. |
Ohh and all I was thinking about was how much better Dishonored was. o.O

I've spent a hour or two before mission 7 just lighting these hidden candles (Some 30 or so by now, maybe there's many more.) from what I've read they have no real effect on the game (Unlike those obelisks.) but now near the end of the game I'm starting to puzzle together what they're whispering about.
(The candles say a word or phrase when lit, first I didn't quite understand but now it's a bit more clear.)

Do you mean when I occasionally comment on how I like the game - when I think the negative comments are getting out of hand?
Sure, it could be desperation. It depends on how you perceive it.
At least I'm not saying it's fantastic or perfect. I'm saying it's a flawed game that's good if you like that sort of thing.
The negative comments are pretty one-sided and extreme for the most part.

Interinactive - Chilll man. Let us enjoy our game. You hate it, ok. Can't you just let it go?
Why do you keep posting these pessimistic, hating messages every time?
You've made your point loud and clear!
To each his own mate, let us have fun

Would be nice if the game had less loading screens, finished watching the "Life of the party" mission in Thief 2 and something like that would have been really awesome with modern technology, going through a large city area via the rooftops via two quite open areas with a lot of side rooms to explore and loot and then on to the primary objective which is a stronghold (With six floors.) and finally back again without any loading screens.
(Having just Stonemarket and Riverside instead of four - six locations for each primary area in this game for example, plus the separate mission specific areas though those are also restricted for some other reasons.)
Of course it would use a lot of RAM and be quite demanding on GPU and CPU as well and trying to maintain a high level of detail to the various locations so it would probably require a lot of data streaming to work reliably on current systems or just dividing it into smaller separate sections.
Maybe for the next game if they'll continue the franchise after the lower than expected sales and reviews.
(Which I guess goes for Hitman and Deus Ex as well, maybe Tomb Raider too.)

you meant to reply to the secret candle reward post?
I don't need no stinking focus point, don't have that enabled
Onto chapter 6 now. Asylum was pretty cool. Its not as good as the craddle, let alone the tombs in thief 1, but still was pretty decent. |
I play through the mission first without using it but I didn't explicitly disable focus either so after that when I replay the mission I enable it and see what I've missed.
(Which surprisingly was usually just minor loot, missed on of those collectible treasures so far in the asylum because there was some bug behind the elevator or I just didn't do whatever I was meant to do correctly.)
It does make the game quite easy once you are near the end of the game since if you explored carefully and donated to Garret's mom (Or whatever she's meant to be, wax perhaps? Hmm.) you will have enough points to nearly max out all but one ability.
But it's interesting to see how it was designed, such as seeing connection points for interaction areas from rope arrow connections to the little wires coming from the trap boxes.
(I still find lockpicking easier without focus however.)
It's also a bit strange how it causes Garret to go into bullet time mode when using arrows and turning him into a brutal melee fighter and lighting fast pickpocket so I usually don't use those features of it.

Yeah, when a person says he's enjoying Thief and that he's a sucker for Thief games, responding directly to him with "too bad they stopped making them" is not at all unnecessary and self-serving.
We get it, you feel better when putting things down that other people enjoy.

You remind me of myself, the one that despises what they did to Tomb Raider, that myself. Funny how that's a Square Enix game too. I've grown to like the western part of Square Enix because they were making games that actually belonged to the franchises they were part of even though they were modernized in a way, they are also one of the best when it comes to PC ports, they also saved Sleeping Dogs, but then they started rebooting everything in a really bad way. Oh well.

What would you call a person who takes pleasure in putting things down that other people enjoy?
Putting it down is fair enough - though doing it over and over is questionable.
But taking pleasure from it?
I'd call that hateful or "small" - whatever you like to call it. Not a very impressive or appealing character trait, certainly.
Again, I have no problem with it. I'm just making it clear in case you weren't aware of what you're doing - but since you've already admitted that you enjoy being like that - there's no point of contention. It's all good.

I actually like his opinion and attituted towards most games that come out.
He's usually the first one to point out when a game is derpy in some way.
And I remember a lot of his earlier posts (around the first 100) where he was one of the very few which wasn't "OMG, GAEMS DIS DAYZ IS SO GREAT BCUZ OF XBAXPLAYSATSTIONS!".

The legendary master Sneak Thief (old Garrett) is captured and imprisoned in the Old Prison underneath the Moira Asylum. He managed to hide a hidden treasure cache including coins as old as The City, and a strange painting. He lost his golden cockring in the prison (although its not known if he escaped or EH'd there).
|
He lost what?
(Also the events begin in year ~420 and this game begins at ~840 so just how damn old is he.)
EDIT: Oh so there was two different Garret?
