Quote: | Uber Entertainment's real-time strategy game, Planetary Annihilation, no longer has a hard release date, according to an update from the developer. Instead, the Kickstarter-funded game now has an estimated release date of "when it's done." |

I didnt even knew it has firm release date i always thought it has date just after alpha/beta phases are done
Quote: | Planetary Annihilation "will launch when we feel confident about its level of polish and the amount of awesome we can jam into it," though Uber Entertainment estimates the PC game will be feature-complete sometime in early 2014.
"We are extremely happy at what we've been able to accomplish with the game so far, but we want to take some additional time to make sure we are releasing the best game we can," said Jon Mavor, chief technical officer of Uber Entertainment.
Uber says it's currently "taking extra time to polish up, tweak, balance, and engineer the full game that you want." |

New patch out early this morning.
Quote: | There's a new build out as of right now, that includes some fixes I made yesterday. I re-factored how the GPU particle effect system manages memory, to move it to more of a centralized, on-demand "page-based" model rather than trying to determine up front how much it would need. As a result, memory usage is greatly reduced, and this should help a lot of systems in the 512MB and 1GB GPU memory range. It'll also fix some sporadic crashes that we saw over the past few days.
I also found a bug that's been there for a long time (several months) where a logic error was causing particle systems to not get cleaned up properly if they were created far enough away that they never got displayed.
As a result, our latest tests show major improvements in memory usage (at the end of the last playtest, the particle renderer on my machine was using only 10MB, instead of ~160MB which it would have previously), and late-game performance has improved as well (although we're not done there, yet...).
I'd be interested so see how these changes effect performance for you guys - especially those reporting a significant performance drop in the last build.

Not sure if anyone was having trouble running it, but it sounds like performance is now much improved.

I don't really like the attitude of one of the developers on Steam forum. They have stated that upon release, it will be DRM free, but will continue to force 'always online' up until then, as they don't want shoddy copies floating around the net, lol.
I reckon its a greed thing, as this game has always been way overpriced, and they will drag out the release date for as long as possible, to pull in that extra buck.
Remember, $89.99 a year ago!, lol, pity the poor fools who paid that at the time
£17 is better, but I feel it will drop much lower, eventually
**Edit**
Fuck it, I've bit, just grabbed it @ that price lol

This is an actual concern from a couple of developers. The reasoning is related to people judging Early Access games on Steam as Final products, and reviewing accordingly. That's bad enough, but then you have the Early Access versions being pirated, and people downloading it don't realise how near-or-far it is to completion, so it's like a piece of bad PR, floating around. How many people here judge whether to buy a game based on the Yarr copy? Now multiply that by the number of stupid people who think they're playing a Final build (when they're only playing an early Beta), and it can be pretty bad for the image of the game.
Or, tl;dr:
Bad pirated copies hurt sales as much as we like to think good pirated copies help sales.

i would be fine with any kind of drm as long as i get a drm free version in the end even if it would be a year after release

I don't know, is it worth it?
I'd play it for single player. But atm there is none.
So I'd pass until release.

As I understand it, buy it on Steam and you have the base game bundle and that's that. Buy it on the Uber website and you can buy the base game bundle, but also have the option of increasing how much you spend and upgrading to a bundle which has more stuff.

Planetary Annihilation - Warfare Edition
for 45$ or 45eur
no option to get more goodies
