meh i like the game, just run custom difficulty and turn off some crap in the hud options, voila the game is basicly an updated deadly shadows
oh also seems like higher difficulty makes the ai react way better
it looks good, it runs OK (47 avg vsync on 680gtx @benchmark) but when playing it mostly sits at vsync since theres no area with that much crap in
also do yourself a favor and turn off the waypointers and stuff cause theres alot to explore between the missions

It is amusing what kind of influence "professional critics" mostly from console oriented video gaming websites and who rated COD 9+ have on gullible pc gamers 
I played all thief games and so far I don't see why this game deserves such a hate. I haven't progressed far enough to determine whether the story is shit or not so we'll see. Is it the best thief game out there? Hell no, to say the least! Does it have flaws gameplay wise? It sure does. Is it atmospheric? Yup. Does it have nice grasphics? I would say so.
Does difficulty customization help? It does indeed if you feel like going all hardcore and whatnot.
AI problems here and there? Same happens in any stealth game out there.
Disabled jumping? Yeah, it pisses me off. Smaller levels? Well, yeah, but for most parts it plays like dat old thief I played long time ago but with a few limitations.
Will it get worse later on? I have no idea.If it does I'll most certainly start bashing it here, scout's honor 
If we want to talk about ratings..At the moment I would give it 7.5+. Is it a bad rating? Fuck no.
And you know what? I'm pretty sure if Thief 1/2 was released in 2014 the way it was back then, it would get the same reviews from all those dishonored and assasin creed fans-critics.

Look smart guy, if you like the game thats fine, enjoy it. But don't make everyone else into idiots please. Critics will always have an influence and if every single one of them says the story is beyond bad, then it sure as hell probably is. And if 2/3 of these "console critics" say the gameplay is really streamlined and that no jump is a real pain then there might be some truth to it.... I seriously doubt only you and a handful of others have tapped the true Thief experience™ while everyone else somehow missed it.
So in your style... Is the game really bad? No. Is the game a let down? Most definitely. Are people trying to justify their purchase/hype by emphasizing the good parts and minimizing the bad? Oh yes.
And if Thief 1/2 was released in 2014 nobody knows how it would go. If mario was released next year for the first time, would it be the same fucking hit? Who knows and who cares...

You mean how CoD: Dawgs probably is the most amazing, visceral and immersive thing out there? I mean, that's what 9/10 journalists say 
I played for maybe 10 minutes (might upload some footage) and if you set up a custom config and turn off the HUD options, at least it seems to be fine on that front. Only option I wouldn't turn change is movement speed; when set to slow, the game is *really* slow. The lack of jump is a little annoying though. It runs fine on my system, SSAA set to high (I take it that's 4x), FXAA off, everything else on/maxed and I'm still getting 80 FPS.
When I read "bland level design" from a journalist who has praised CoD: Fish AI, I can't take them seriously either, since that looked bland as fuck. The game so far does look fairly bland, but I suspect that's simply the style they were going for, just as with DX:HR. Lots of people didn't like Dishonored's visuals, I did. I haven't made up my mind about this one, yet, I haven't really seen enough of it.
Areas seem cramped, little freedom, so I'm pretty sure I'll find that annoying sooner rather than later. If there's too much scripted nonsense, that'll annoy me too.
But from a first impression? If CoD is worth 9, so is this. Any journo who discredits this for things such as bland level design, dumb AI or bad plot but gave CoD: Next-Gen anything more than the fucking 4 it deserves, should hand in his PC and/or consoles to people who know a bad game when it bites them in the nose.
And that goes for you dipshits blindly following reviews without checking it out for yourselves too. How the fuck can you even consider to take any of these reviews seriously, when there's almost none of them who discredited the latest CoD for the CRAP it was?
Mind you, I'm sure I'm gonna run into the bad parts soon enough and then discard the game, but I'll be damned if I take any journos word for it. |
