How did you do that? With the Cinema thing? |
http://www.3dtv.at/Index_en.aspx
there's a cracked ver on the internets. just choose OR in settings as default viewing mode, then open your 3D movie, press Ctrl+Alt+Enter and then choose the zoom level with Alt+1,2,3. I watch on Alt+2 if I want to see the whole image but the ALt+Enter mode (a bit overzoomed) gives better immersion at the cost of 5-10% of the image on the sides. Alt+1,2,3 doesn't work in Alt+Enter mode, only in Alt+Ctrl+Enter.

I've only tried Skyrim. It's fun for roaming around but menus, GUI are so far on the sides that it's impossible to play.
Anyone tried the vorpx driver? Is there a pirated version in existence?

ALright gents, I give up, how do you manage games with 360 degrees and movement? I can't spin my whole head around and stay that way!

that "simulator" is garbage
rift doesn't have ridiculous motionblur like that, has no scanlines and the "sim" lacks the screendoor effect entirely

I would say it is a little less noticeable when wearing the DK1 Rift, depend how fast you turn your head.
So interpreting what I see on screen with the simulator, I think CV1 hardware should be good for the first consumer version.
I just hope they find another tracking solution than trackIR style. |

So does or doesn't it have scanlines? I don't have the rift as i was mostly waiting for the next version to arrive, but those lines would be a dealbreaker to me, at least to the effect that that simulator is showing, my eyes hurt looking at that for more than a second. It's hard to believe those are there to that extent considering the raving reviews the rift gets by everyone, how would anyone be able to do anything watching those lines for more than a second.
I mean that's basicly staring at an extremely bad horribly interlaced screen.

stand up.
it's craziness!
or get a chair that can turn :-)
I don't think I played a demo/game yet where I needed to turn 360° and could not use the controller to turn as well, so I always just use the controller or mouse or recenter my view occasionally.

Even with the Tuscany demo, all I saw you could do on the keyboard was strafe with 'a' and 'd'. What if I want to turn around and walk that way? I'd have to spin my head/body around and stay that way! While somehow reaching 'w' to move forward.
Did I miss something?
What about HL2? TF2?
EDIT: Immediately after posting this I probably realized how stupid I am. Not once have I picked up a mouse while using the Rift. Is the mouse still enabled? lol
Seems odd though, do the mouse and rift just get in eachother's way?

yeah its a bit overdone and not really showing how it is.
For me motion blur is not as high and I dont see low res as scanlines but You can clearly see individual pixels on matrix of the screen. Its different because on the simulator there should be tiny black grid on whole pic and not those wird lines

Screen door effect & motion blur are less noticeable with the actual DK1.
But these issues are real.
If you plan to actually play VR games, stay away from the DK1 and wait for the next version.
If you just want to try it and want an early preview of VR, go for it.

depends on the game.
sometimes they both control the view, so you can use them together for more freedom of movement of the view. just gotta be careful not to move too much with the mouse and only use it to 'realign' yourself so to speak or you might get dizzy :-)
half life 2 for example lets you look around with the rift separately from the gun aim, which is controlled by the mouse, and if you move the aim to the edge of the screen you drag the view with it.
that's my prefered control method.

Thats how you do it, mouse and keyboard.
and they dont get in each others way, think of movement as your feet, and rift as your head. You can look one way, walk another while turning if you want.

I figured if I take care of the devkit well enough, I can re-sell in like 15 years for collectors.

Holy balls. I've been through a bunch of demos now, everything is completely badass! Went through Windlands and that FPS where you shoot targets or something (forget the name - EDIT: Time Rifters!)
But then... THEN. Ohhhhh boy.
I tried to play Half-Life 2.
I did fine in every game I tried. Then holy shit Half-Life 2. Instant motion sickness, lol. Going to have to build up to that one or something. I didn't even get to the interrogation room right in the beginning before I had to stop.

man i so have to contain myself to order a devkit -.-
only thing holding me back is i just feel it's kind of late to order a DK1 at this point since the next one might be out the next 6 month window or so.
feel like playing skyrim on this must be amazing, only downside not being able to use enb though :/
