Doesn't seem to be very well optimized. On max settings at 1440p the first area gave me fps in the 60's-70's, and down to the 30's in cutscenes. That's on SLI 770's.

The game writes config file here:
X:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\MercurySteam\Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 (DEMO)\
but it does not affect anything after you made the changes so you can't remap keyb layout or change anything manually.
It seems like instead all settings saved in:
X:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\MercurySteam\CastlevaniaLoS\
Which is not editable in simple way.
Absolutely disgusting I must say.

(I just checked, that file hasn't been changed since I last ran the game.)
Unsure how the first file worked, it looked to be plain text but if changing it doesn't work then there must be more to it than that one file. |
Yep, seems like that, because i checked everywhere - demo does not save anything, that looks like config file, anywhere at all.
God dammit. But seriously, wtf? After such a fuck up with LoS1 they do it again.

Well..
You can't change the gamepad controls at all. Who in the hell thought it is a good idea to put BLOCK on LT? Like... really? I can't even change it to R1.
And if you did think that keyboard was handled better (compare to LoS1) this time - well, too bad, it wasn't. I still can't assign block to LAlt. Guess i will have to use Autohotkey again. Sigh.
So much for promised "better PC port". |
Errr what?
"Most" games in this genre have block on LT, they've had that since ninja gaiden in 2004.....

Having played through LoS1 again a week ago, I appreciate the free camera, but also combat improved a bit. Some of the animation seem a bit more smooth/responsive, ability to dodge mid-air is welcome too (I know you could eventually do that in some form in LoS1, but it was far more limited, and unlocked later in the game).
The thing I didn't like however was that titan fight. While certainly being improvement over the bland titan fights in LoS1, I don't quite like battles against huge bosses ever since I played GoW. Kinda got bored of them I guess.
Looking forward to this one.

Oscar Araujo have outdone himself on this game. The music really sounds like something from an A picture. The composer reminds me of Basil Poledouris in his younger days.

Fixed my performance, just needed to enable AFR2 in Nvidia control panel. For anyone using SLI, try that.

I quite liked the demo, combat felt smooth and the graphics got improved considerably (even though it's impossible not to notice some ugly low-res textures here and there). If the level design holds up, it will be entertaining.
Didn't even try mouse and keyboard as this is one of those games that are designed to be played with a gamepad (no aiming, cinematic "guided" narration etc.), not a big deal after all.

Why not try it?! It actually plays very well with mouse and keyboard, similarly to Darksiders or the Batman games.

Except you can't remap block to the key that suits you. Or any other button to SHIFT or ALT.
In fact, shift does not work for me at all, lol.

I used the shift key to block (hold down or what the tutorial suggested.) but I never tried remapping the keys, I guess once the full version is released and it saves preferences and such correctly then you can edit the config file and specify key bindings, unless they encrypt it as with the first game.
(I asked on Xentax and got a way to decrypt the file to see what was in it - for the first game - but there wasn't much in there aside from the in-game settings.)

The problem is that the game does not see ALT at all. You can remap block to "L" or "]" but pressing ALT does nothing, Or if you remap it to something else andthen try to map back to SHIFT - it does not see it. Lel.

Hmm that might be something they've done to restrict keybindings to system keys like alt, ctrl, windows key and the various F keys - there's F1 to show key prompts though - that would need to be patched by the developers if so.

But there are CTRL binds. By default. ALT is no different.

There was? I probably overlooked that when I tried the demo but if so it's very strange then that you can't rebind them to other purposes, if the game already uses them for certain actions there shouldn't be any problems with switching the keys around to suit whatever preferred control scheme.
(Same with remapping the controller buttons should that be desired.)

I quite liked it ... the only problem i had was in the cutscenes the game ran like crap ~15 fps... but when the gameplay started everything was awesome and smooth i hope they fix that.
And i really really liked the demo Mouse and Keyboard controls were good , i did not had any problems with M & K .. everything feels smooth and responsive i'll still play it with a controller (just because i like this kind of games more with a controller)
The combat was good , responsive and smooth ... i'm not sure if i'm a fan of auto recharging of health steal ( when using a sword ) it seems very easy to stay full health all the time , but i dunno if that's a feature of the demo (or the start of the game) or will stay like that the entire game ... that makes the game really easy IMO
out of sig inspiration for the moment

Yep, that is exactly the point and that is EXACTLY how it was with keyboard support in LoS1.
I mean really. A year wasn't enough to get a word from community and take into consideration how bad the kb+m support was?
