"One of the most fun things about watching players make their way through Outlast has been watching the terrified looks on their faces, so we decided to step things up a notch.
"Newly added on PlayStation 4 is a difficulty level we call 'insane'. If you feel brave enough to pick this mode, you'll have very low health, very few batteries, no checkpoints, and no chance to save your game. It's do or die. Survive or start again."
Barreling down a hallway with a beast right on your heels, bursting through a series of doors when you have no idea what's on the other side, and eventually finding a closet to hide in and evade your pursuer provides a fantastic and terrifying thrill. And once enemies begin tearing apart rooms and opening closets in search of you – yep, you can imagine just how nerve-wracking this game gets.
YEP. Walked into one room, shit my pants, went back to main PS4 menu.
lol the atmosphere is great when playing the game in the dark with headphones on.
Spoiler:
The first jump moment when the hanging body drops ... boy did I jump!
That freaky fuck in wheelchair scared the bejesus out of me as well!
Its a cool game. The guys crazy breathing is awesome as is ability to look behind you when being chased. I like how he puts his hand on the wall especially when trying to peek around corners! And when the batteries drain, I was expecting to be plunged into complete darkness but thankfully you can still see, just not as far ahead as you can when using the nightvision when the batteries have charge.
Spoiler:
Ive managed to get to the part when the power goes out and you have to start the generator.
only good moment in this game was when DR.Satan cut his fingers off [YOU WILL GET IT when you watch horror movies]
but i hated two things :
near the end this game did a 180 and turned into FEAR with a secret laboratory and sterile maps, secret government organization , all commando army like ... it was like i was playing that crappy FEAR again
and that this game took all icons of horror pop culture and put it into this game
It was scary at first and every fucking jump moment made me fucking jump! Then it was not so scary and now its fucking terrifying! lol
Spoiler:
Just had my fingers cut off by Dr Trager and now hes stalking me! Things were getting pretty relaxed before I ran into that psycho. I spent a good hour trying to sneak by him but so far he keeps impaling me with those fucking sword scissors or whatever they are. The game is great but now Im scared to go back as I know I have to get past him lol. Is this far from the end?
The recording time in the top right corner is about 3 hours. I assume this is to give you an idea of how long you have been playing?
Finally got past that fucking Dr Trager psycho. I honestly thought the game was near the end lol but it seems not. The outside sequence in the rain and lightning was pretty epic. Had my first encounter with the Walrider. That was freaky as fuck! And now I just lost my camcorder!? There goes the nightvision!
... should be able to get it finished I think tonight
Great game! Enjoyed it from start to end which was just over 6 hours. Might play it again on a harder difficulty but not insane. The idea of getting through the game in one life is exactly that ... insane!
After the release of the Outlast, Red Barrels Games released two additional difficulties - Very Hard and Nightmare. In Nightmare difficulty, the player has only 2 batteries, The Variants become stronger and wiser, the door shut voice becomes more loud. The difficulties could be found by purchasing Outlast on Steam but after Update 6 had come out, players who downloaded Outlast from torrents can play in Very Hard and Nightmare difficulties. The PlayStation 4 version of the game contains the Insane difficulty, where very few batteries can be found, it has no checkpoints or saves, meaning if the player dies they will be forced to start from the beginning of the game.
Outlast developer Red Barrels has just announced that Outlast: Whistleblower will be available for PC and PS4 in April. The DLC, which was previously thought to be just a prequel, will actually tell a story that stretches over the main Outlast game, before its events and after.
Spoiler Alert
Quote:
Whistleblower stars Waylon Park, a software engineer under contract at Mount Massive Asylum. Park is the man responsible for alerting Miles, protagonist of the main game, about the strange activities in the asylum.
Spoiler:
A new screenshot for Whistleblower has been revealed, and it’s pretty weird. In it there’s a man, sans genitals, licking a knife. Is this Doctor Trager before he removed all of his skin? I certainly hope so!
A little late to the party here... but finally got around to trying it last night for the first time since getting it as part of PSN+ free games.
Thought it would be just lulz and running around, I had to fucking stop playing after 20 minutes cause I was shitting my pants and jumping out of my seat.
I don't normally get scared in video games, but this one did it for me....
