|
 |
I tend to do a lot of gaming and photoshopping/Premiere Pro in my PC but also using Fraps to record 30 mins of gaming
I actually have 1 WD HDD Blue 1TB and i'd like to find something bigger but faster...NOT AN SSD due to the life span (or whatever it's said) even if the speed is tremendous
I was wondering if upgrading from my Blue 1TB to a WB Black 2TB would make any big difference or anything
There's also this WD SSD+1TB HDD but i don't know how that would correctly work..specially since i have Windows XP and Windows 7 in my actuall HDD (Partitioned)
Any help?
Thanks in advance
AND NO TROLLING ,PLEASE

The Black is significantly faster than the Blue in pretty much every task, but for everyday use you really won't notice it all that much. Your best option, which you've already negated, is a decent SSD for OS/Photoshop/various intensive games and 2TB Black for everything else.

I'll go with 2TB Black whenever i have the time n stuff.. Thanks man.
I'm saying no to SSDs because, besides of the small capacity and "caution" you have to take, i don't wanna be one that accidentally pokes the Defragmentation Tool on it ^^; XDDDDD...I tend to do that whenever the PC acts rare

So you regularly waste a few hours doing that for 0 gain? Because mechanical drives nowadays may not have access times as quick as an SSD, they are still quick enough that defragmenting is absolutely pointless. Unless it's a 5400 RPM low power drive, there's really no point in defragmenting.

Don't
The few milliseconds saved after defragmenting are barely noticeable. Your HDD is never in a state where it can actually read a long string of blocks sequentially properly. If it's your system drive, it'll be jumping back and forth regardless. If it's just a data drive, the seek time on a decent drive is around 10-12ms and that's hardly going to affect the overall read speed. All the software involved furthermore attempts to keep the blocks sequential as good as it can to begin with.
It's not entirely useless, but there's no point in doing it more than once every 2-3 years or so. It takes a long time for data to become fragmented to a point where defragging helps.

And what type of SSD that'd last hella loads of time would you recommend?..

you can't defrag a SSD in windows 7. It's disabled by default.

Pretty much every SSD out there? Just how "quick" do you think SSDs "die"?

Well, it's enough for me but on the other hand I only have windows and a few small programs in it besides 2-3 games.
And ofc you'll need to have a separate HDD for all the other stuff.
And what did you mean by performance, is the 250GB faster than the 120GB?

I'd grab 2 blacks, and shove em in RAID 0, what I have, and they perform well for HDD's.

weird, with my last windows 7 installation, the SSD was actually greyed out in the defrag tool. But not so anymore. weird indeed.

So i ended up buying that SAMSUNG 840 EVO 250GB (Just in case, had the money for it, costed 140€) and bought the "Brackets" for my tower...Sadly,the manual from the EVO was a BITCH, saying that an special USB connector for transfering shit was there but WASN'T THERE and some screws and a "rest plate" ALSO WASN'T THERE (LAZY SAMSUNG!)...Just the SSD , stickers (<3) and a DVD for transferring shit (but not the drivers? Oo..Windows 7,before the format, detected the unit correctly,so it said)
good thing i could mount Just one of the brackets...sadly, hanging the SSD in the air..Connection was a bit of a pain due to having just the needed 3 SATA plugs ,1 for the DVD, 1 for the SSD and 1 for the 1TB WD Blue (One more night to get LUCK-KY)
So i've installed Windows 7 64bits HP and well ,SEEMS that everything goes as it should (though some installs like Itunes tooked...more seconds than expected )
Is there a way to see if my SSD works as it should?...
