I did for a while. But when the cheaters and griefers became more and more popular, it just wasn't fun anymore. Haven't played it in a long time. This looked fun at first but my idea of fun isn't to spend time hunting and gathering to build things only to have some fuckwit destroy it for naught. No thanks.

I think Rust has more potential for a community building game than DayZ does.

I don't think we'll ever see DayZ have small communities formed out of nothing. DayZ is more of a sociopath simulator than a game.

On the Rust server I'm on now we have small communities forming, building houses together.

Survival games aren't just about KoS, but surviving together against others that are psychos and defeating them.

DayZ atm is just a massive landmass with a few zombies and items to pick up till you die from a KoS player.

And my guess is that it will stay like that since there is no building in it. People are too boring. I would actually find it more interesting to see who you can meet up with or ditch instead of just the boring shooting each other on sight/distance.

But those occasions are very rare so my guess is that that game isn't rewarding enough for me. Rust seems to have more potential in achieving lasting communities. But it's tha internertz we'll see

How surprising!

So after writting my last post, I decided to play a little, see how thing changed.

Crafted little camp, an oven, some armor, pistol and ammo. Had a nice little camp, lost in the middle of nowhere

Logged back this morning, door busted and everything stolen.

lawl!

You cannot build anything in area with resources (if you want to play hermit style).
And even in an area without resources; you need to build it in some hole in a mountain.

Build high and put as many doors as you can between you and the outside world Smile The more C4 they waste the more they won't bother again Smile I hope your door was metal too.

Like someone posted ingame, we could make it the "unofficial/official" NFOHump server?

Currently I'm on the planning stages and a rough idea what I want to do with the server:
- No research kits/weapon blueprints
- M4, Bolt Action, MP5, Shotgun are pretty rare drops from chests
- 9mm Pistol is the "common weapon drop" as P250 is very strong so it has to be pretty rare aswell. 9mm blueprint available as drop maybe?
- Air Drop has a chance to drop one full set of Kevlar, only way to acquire Kevlar(?)
- Leather Armor/Rad Suit blueprints available as loot, no item drops for these(?)
- No 9mm ammo drops, people have to craft it themselves(?)
- Crates can drop both C4 and Grenades, both are common drops for Air Drop(?). To make sure raiding is still viable/possible
- Small Medkits are common, blueprint maybe? Large Medkits definitely only as a drop.
- Blood Draw Kits/Paper/Explosives completely removed from drops as they are both pretty much useless
- No blueprints for Metal parts, only as item drops, hopefully get some trading going on for the parts people might need?

Doing this should give people something to think about when going out with their precious Bolt Action/M4/Kevlar sets, hopefully give PVP a bit more excitement and avoid having everyone running around with M4s and Kevlar in first few hours.

Ideas? Suggestions? I'm all ears for now! Looking to get the server up and running properly by next Friday, maybe before.

I think rad suit will be better as drop instead of blueprint cause its necessary for rad town etc hunting = you will need to be more aware of enemies etc..

Thats all for now.. everything else is ok like you post it.

Initial loot tables are online on the server now.

I wouldn't mind some user input on how it looks, it is pretty tedious looting it all alone to see how it is, would be better if more users could help with looting and give input on what drops and what doesn't and what you think should.

You are correct.

I'm also waiting for the dedicated files so I can actually get it on my own host which has the hardware to run a high player server unlike all these piece of shit hosts which seems to start lagging when you get closer to 100 players.

And the pricing is crazy aswell, 19€ or something for 100 slots when I pay 26€/month for my own server with 4 times the juice and can do whatever I want with it.
