|
 |
Anyway its been two years and i always get this need to upgrade after two years...
My current setup is this
Asus P8p67 PRO
8 GB ram
i5 2500k
Gigabyte 570GTX
I was thinking about a new GPU (probably a 7 series), but should i be looking at a new CPU or is the 2500k still decent?

I would say You are still very fine. thats still a good pc.
Maybe jsut get ssd if You want one.
570gtx is fine but if You would really want to upgrade then only gfx, because that 2500k is still very fine. I doubt You would get more than 5-10% performance at MOST withe very expensive cpu.
btw. what clock do You run that 25k ? Always can get good cooling and do 4,5-5ghz and then just make upgrade completly pointless.

That's exactly the same system that I have (same motherboard also), and I agree, the GPU should be your #1 priority as long as you overclock the trusty 2500k. There haven't been too many games able to put the 570GTX to shame so far, assuming that you avoid them uber details, expensive AA methods and super-high resolutions, but with the "nextgen" era things will inevitably change. I can already see tons of bad ports and unoptimized software ahead of us, and you (we) will definitely need more horsepower even at 1080p
I'll have to wait for the upgrade so I'll just play my future games at 30fps and become a peasant again.

I'm quite pleased with the 570 myself, but as you say unoptimized games loom on the horizon
I was thinking of waiting a bit, maybe for the 8-series, but a friend of mine said he get components quite cheap, so i'm waiting on his price list. If its good i'll upgrade, if not i may wait a bit.

yeah and then wait for price drop of 8 series, oh but look 9 series is around the corner, better wait for that... it's never ending cycle.
i always grin at people who talk about some waiting with pc upgrading, it's so stupid.
if you can and want to upgrade just do it right now, today, and you'll be most happy. living in a constant waiting state is shitty.

Porting and writing games from start are 2 different things. Ports are running shit (gta 4 is a good sample, or star wars force unleashed).
You can buy the best stuff out their, the games wont run better if they are ported.

Nah. Went from a 2500k to a 4670k, saw no change in performance. As everyone already said, a new video card should be the proper approach.

8 series is still 6 months away, if not more. I wouldn't wait for that
Lots of people think it's coming soon, but it isn't. If it is, it's going to be disappointing because it'll still be on 28nm and thus very limited in thermals and power.
A 780 or 290 (not the Ti, not the X) is insane bang for buck right now. Those are the ones you should get.

GTA V, Watch Dogs and Witcher 3 for sure runs everything maxed out on a 2500K.

All those are ports though so the CPU is a bottleneck in that the code isn't optimised for the PC platform (ie. probably doesn't even use 4+ cores and may be slowed down by HT etc).
I don't see a reason to go from an overclocked 2500K (if it's stable at 4.5GHz) to something else, there won't be much of a difference IRL. Powerful GPU and at least 8GB RAM should be enough with a 4.5GHz 2500K for any game.

For that price. Buy 7 of them.
Where do you see this deal? Must be a mistake.

Is 750w enough for the GTX690?

More than, (for a single 690) but one should not rely on wattage Rails are what count with a PSU
You can have an 850W branded PSU that only supplies 30a on the 12v rail, for example, then your in trouble, more so if you overclock and need more juice
On the other hand, you can have a 650w PSU supplying 55a on the 12v rail, and that will do just dandy
Never, EVER, skimp on an PSU, as it will cause you more heartache than you can imagine. Always pay a little more for a good PSU, and it will keep you set for a good few years, and then some.
