Well i hope Ziggo and KPN are both going to fight it, makes no sense anyway, we got like 10+ internet providers here, why only force those 2?

Odd indeed, we have a single provider here that monopolizes all the others so paradoxically our "case" makes more sense than yours. Although it was the old dictatorsh...err government that decided it

Well i shouldn't say KPN is force, cuz KPN owns all the ADSL lines in the ground here (so non cable/fibre providers would be included automatically), but more XS4ALL (kinda typical that ISP with "Access for all" as name, blocks access to a certain website )

How blocked will it be? Can you still access through IP#, like in the proposed SOPA?
TOR is slow as hell.

They went in higher appeal already but they have to block the sites because otherwise they get heavy fined because they lost the case.

Funny how these retard corporations think that by blocking one torrent tracker, all piracy will be gone.

That's not what they think, it's all about setting a precedent. When they can win the first step, the next ones usually follow. Brein for one is very succesfull in what it does, bringing down such a huge community like FTD was a big blow.

Well as of today it got blocked here...
Our provider is fighting in court against it tho because according to them "The ISP shouldn't be playing the Internet Police, this should be not forced on us!"
Let's hope they win, because searching on TPB has become a pain in the butt now.
And yes, i know about the se.nyud.net after it, but the whole layout is a fucking mess there.

Enable the Turbo mode on Opera and it should work like normal, if the block is similar to what they're using in Finland.

Blocked aswell, isn't that just a redirect?
Because the whole IP is blocked, not just dns (atleast i presume that)

And no more
http://tweakers.net/nieuws/93949/ziggo-en-xs4all-hoeven-the-pirate-bay-niet-langer-te-blokkeren.html
Loose TL;DR translation:
Quote: | Ziggo and Xs4all no longer have to block popular torrentsite The Pirate Bay. The high court in The Hague overruled an earlier ruling by a lower court that both providers should block the site, after the two appealed said ruling.
The high court thinks the blocking is ineffective and thus affects the providers' freedom. BREIN (the fucking dipshits behind any and all anti-piracy nonsense in NL) have to pay all legal costs in the range of 326 000 Euros.
According to BREIN the blocking is pretty trivial, but judge said that that is irrelevant since being forced to do this hinders their freedom to act according to their own insight. Because a provider can not be held responsible for breach of copyright by their clients, forcing them to block a site is not justified. And the judge also wondered why BREIN only pleaded to block TPB, rather than other torrentsites such as Kickass Torrents and Torrentz.eu.
|
That's the important bits. So thanks to these 2 providers there's now a precedent which will basically prevent BREIN from ever requesting the same nonsense again, at least until a major change in our laws happens.
And just as a reminder, BREIN only went after Ziggo initially, Xs4all joined Ziggo in the fight voluntarily (which is why they ended up having to block the site too before the rest of our ISPs, which only had to do it after another trial). Strange little country, where ISPs actively fight for things like this eh?

Victory!
Except that Ziggo will soon be in the hands of an US company is a mayor setback
You can bet that BREIN will pull the same bs in the US and suddenly we are back at square one..

I doubt Ziggo will go along with any 'MURRIKA bullshit. Liberty Global already had a stake in Ziggo and it's quite clear that Ziggo had a lot of demands before the whole thing could even happen.

Doesn't matter, the fact remains that when they fully take over Ziggo, we are bound by US law when it comes to our ISP.
UPC already had this issue, so if anything changes in the law there, we WILL feel it here.

Unless that is only the case with the patriot act. I'm still waking up, so forgive me if i read things wrong

Uh, no we won't. They are still bound by Dutch law. Ziggo is and will remain a Dutch legal entity. US laws will never, EVER apply to us.
The only thing we could possibly be affected by is the Patriot Act. But if that's a concern, then there's a lot more things you'll have to throw out of your house
It's not as if the NSA will give a fuck anyway

I still don't like it tho, our whole (with exception of 1 province) coax cable network in the hands of an US company..

As opposed to it being in the hands of that same company for 50% and having a minority stake in another 40%? Because that's what it was before
People are so damn paranoid now. Even if 0% of it was in hands of the US, it still doesn't matter. They'll spy regardless, they don't need permission, nor does it get much easier. Especially not when half the hardware on that network already comes from US companies. You do realise that the majority of modems used are Cisco or Motorola right? Yep, both American companies. Then Cisco also supplies some other hardware that's used, such as routers and switches. This goes for any ISP in NL or in fact, the world. Not even China will be completely free of hardware from the US
