SSAO is quite cheap by now I assume but it's not very accurate, HBAO and now also HBAO+ on the other hand are far more accurate (We'll probably see it used more and more often now.) but it's often over-done or how to say in many games so you get big black splotches around objects, HBAO+ at least has a better resolution so it's less flickery/blocky.
HDAO seems to work best under DirectX 11 when using compute shaders and it's pretty accurate but compared to HBAO it seems to be quite subtle when used such as seen with the Far Cry 3 AO comparison.
(Of course it likely depends on implementation and optimization, you could probably make normal SSAO work relatively well with some more work.)
If the game is like GoneHomo will be putting your PC on knees back to 20FPS - I'm pretty sure you will be fucking happy to have at least SSAO. Because it seems like it is some kind of popular trend in 2013-14 for first-person puzzle quests/horrors to have Crysis3 requirements. Still mad.
Freakness, just because your avatar is Giger-induced you should be clapping hands this game is DOING a nice rendition to Giger's Alien, the best and worst nightmare one could have.
I'm still waiting for how they'll implement the "shooting clones/soldiers" that they commented on a while ago.
This game simply sounds too good to be true. A publisher allowing a slow paced and atmospheric game to be made with AAA production values based on a blockbuster movie franchise? Impossibru. Or at least implausibru.

Well, i have no problems playing a game like this. I would enjoy it. But for how long it would last? Two hours? Heavily scripted and many cutscenes?
Will they implement advanced level roaming alien AI? I doubt it. I'd rather have a James Cameron's Aliens inspired game than Ridley Scott's, because Ridley's movie is hard to make it into game's format. This kind of game would have to heavily rely on alien's artificial inteligence, which I doubt they will do. If they make this a android killing simulator then this is not Alien, but a crappy version of Aliens. I'm still hoping for a perfect Aliens game. They will do it eventually.
When has been an Alien game that has been unique? It's always the stupid pew pew pew Cameron Aliens dick sucking w/ swallow.
i was going to suggest aliens for C64, but i guess it is a shooter also
Spoiler:
gameplay was pretty interesting for its time
also the other c64 aliens with multiple minigames following the story was fun
Spoiler:
but not much originality, no
the jaguar avp was quite interesting beyond the action aspect
huge space station thingamabob to explore system shock style
Spoiler:
we were actually remaking the jaguar avp for pc avp1 and got the map built but cancelled the project once the jaguar emulator appeared
(also, it was boring replicating existing levels)

The original Alien on the C-64 was kind of unique. The gameplay was basically a cut-away view of the Nostromo (like a map view) and you moved crew members around the ship, not knowing who the android was, where Jones the cat was and where the Alien was. Your only clues were how much damage was in a room. The more damaged the room, the more likely the Alien was nearby. And it was always random each time you started a new game. And when I played it, the Alien could not be killed so I'm not sure if anyone ever did.
Its impossible to make this game interesting. Just one alien and it will be scripted like hell.
I think the same thing. It will be hard making game like that and make it last for some time.
And they even say that Alien AI is not scripted. bullshit

I refuse to believe this game looks/plays like that when its released . Anyway looks too good to be true, about a time for us to get good Alien game (as it should be survival horror). Graphically looks very nice, especially Dof and Bokeh effects along with nice textures.
im such a huge aliens fan... i always knew cm was going to be shit because of gearbox, so i was never excited about that game at any point (so finding out it wasnt any good, didnt really bother me so much ), but... im kinda worried about how excited im starting to feel about this game... it really looks good, exactly the kind of game aliens deserves... im falling in love with this game and feel like my heart is about to be ripped out of my chest....

Falling in love with a game at this early stage is like falling in love with a whore. Not good for you
Come on guys, behave. BTW, if they develop a good AI for the Alien this can be a great experience imho. It was done before, back into PS2 days (remember ICO?)
About its lenght, yeah, this can be hairy without pewpewpew or good riddles/discovery pursuit and/or NPC interactions. We'll see.

I imagine the AI will be limited to your standard stealth game, where it spots you and chases you.
Like someone else mentioned above, if it's just one alien, this game could end up incredibly scripted.
If they don't let us kill the alien until a later point in the game, they're going to throw in things we CAN kill. They don't think your average gamer can go 1 minute without killing something. That's what I'm worried about. What are the developers going throw inbetween the alien encounters?
