Update from official site. Hitman.com.
Quote: | Dear Hitman fans,
We wanted to share this open letter with all of you out there eagerly awaiting more news about what’s happening next in the franchise.
At Io-Interactive right now, we are building the next AAA Hitman game for PC and next-gen consoles. It has our total focus and we wanted to take a moment to tell you a few things about it.
In the next game you will experience a globetrotting Agent 47 at the prime of his career – the apex predator stalking his prey across the world, with the support of his long-term handler Diana Burnwood and the whole of the ICA.
The game concentrates on the core Hitman fantasy of using a wide range of tools to take out a diverse group of targets across expansive, exotic locations around the world. We are building this game on the backbone of the Glacier 2 engine, using the best parts and what we have learnt through Hitman: Absolution and drawing inspiration from past titles like Contracts and Blood Money to fulfil the core Hitman fantasy. That means we’re packing in an extreme level of detail on the largest levels we have ever built for a Hitman game. We’ve adopted an open, non-linear level design approach to the game, ensuring the game will play out across huge, checkpoint-free, sandbox levels. Our aim is to create living, breathing and believable levels which will allow gamers to play around with the AI to create those unique moments every fan of the Hitman franchise loves.
Contracts Mode is back – you will be able to create and build challenges by experimenting with the large levels and possibilities within them. And of course, you can share them with the world and challenge your friends or foes to complete your hits. Your rules, your Contracts.
You will also be glad to hear that we have removed 47’s magic pockets. We believe that’s all we need to say about that subject.
As we get further into 2014, we will reveal more and get into much closer contact with all of you. There are so many things we have planned and we are extremely excited for the future of Hitman.
Thank you all for your dedication. We will share much, much more in the coming months.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Nah, it sounds pretty good actually.
Bigger, more sandboxy levels and Hitman globetrotting again were my main wishes for the next installment.
Hope they can pull it off, maybe get Jesper Kyd back to do the soundtrack pretty please.

Sounds good, at least they mention all the things that were fucked in Absolution and their promise to fix them.
The AI was definitely the best in any Hitman game, I hope they keep that up.

Not sure if I'm allowed to say this, but a couple of months back they were looking into outsourcing QA work, they even visited our offices, but the deal fell through because our PC's were crap and we weren't able to afford next gen dev kits. That's all I know about this.
R7 2700x @4GHz / MSI B450 Tomahawk / beQuiet! Dark Rock 4 / 32GB @3000 MHz / MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z / Samsung 850 EVO 250GB / Western Digital 1TB / Fractal Design Meshify C Dark / SuperFlower Leadex Gold 650W / DELL whatever 27 inch IPS

I won't forget this, IO. It was Absolution's biggest problem (among the other things).
Though as always we won't be able to draw conclusions until we actually play the game. Trailers and gameplay videos can be very misleading, we already tasted that.

Different Hitman game.

Completely looking forward to this. I for one think Absolution was a really good game. Not in the Hitman of yesteryear's formula, but that is the only problem it had. I played through it, I enjoyed it, and anyone saying it wasn't challenging is lying. The AI was great, and the Glacier 2 engine is also great. Neat big crowds, and I had good performance with my then 770.
I trust IO, and this will be a good game, calling it now.

Also: Imagine a Dues Ex game with the technology of Glacier 2. Those riots they were talking about in the DXHR commentary, how they couldn't pull that off or pull actor related events off - all mostly due to engine limitations.

The game could be as challenging and as easy as you'd want it to be, which is basically what the other hitman games did as well.
Absolution felt off, it felt boring and it felt as if choice on how to approach a map was taken away from me. Some levels were just "wtf was the point with this?" while others seemed a bit more blood money-esque.
Half way through the game was when I got bored with it and just wanted the damn thing to end, just finish it and get it over with.
And considering I didn't like and actually hated some of their last titles (kane & lynch I'm looking at you) I really don't think that this game will interest me in any way.

What?
The AI is dumb as shit in Absolution. Truly, truly dumb. 90% of it was only "A", no "I" to be found. It's mostly trigger based, combined with that stupid, stupid, instinct mechanic (at least we could "hack" that to make it not suck).
Combine that with the stupid corridor shooter maps and it wasn't just a bad Hitman game, it a bad game in general. Very little choice in approach (3 entrances to the target building within 20m of each other doesn't count, sorry), terrible stealth mechanics. For all my skepticism about DX:HR, I was proven wrong. But with Absolution I wasn't unfortunately. It was a cinematic, visceral experience, not a good game.
I hope that this one can return the series to former glory, but I'll believe it when I see it.
