I find em very comfortable. at least as of yet. My ears fit just in. The earcups are very comfortable.

I thought that the cal! will be much more plasticy and fragile but actually it feels pretty solid and well built. Also the cable is not as this as everyone inclined. Most reviews are from 2008. Maybe they changed it since ?

As for the sound. They sound COMPLETELY different from my sound blaster tactic360 sigma. completely. This is my first set of real not gaming headphones. I am not sure what to think of it. I am not an audiophile wanable and have no idea how to describe their sound. But it seems warm and very balanced at the same time. spacing seems about right and somehow it manages to sound fluorishly and detailed at the same time.

Wonder how it will be on xonar dg when it will come !

A little thread highjack.

Some time ago I bought beyerdynamic dt770 80Ω headphones, mostly due to how tanky they looked (broke a lot of headphones, since I move a lot).
Never really cared that much about the audio quality until I plugged them in my friend's DJ station recently.
So my question is, are there any worthwhile audio cards (amplifiers? ) around 50€ which could improve my PC audio experience?

yeah there are plenty. PM SpykeZ for help. He is the best person to ask about audio but be wary - he is crazy about it Very Happy

Me personally, If You are not an audiophille, You can get one of asus xonar cards. I have xonar dg which focuses on headphones. It have amplifier for headphones built in on rear and even on front jack extension to the case ! It can drive up to 250 ohm I think So You will be good. for 50 tho You will get one segment better card than xonar DG. Maybe sound blaster craztive z ? I've heard drivers are shite tho

With asus xonard cards (at least my dg), there is an option in its control panel, in which You select how many ohm is Your headphone....

ohhh sorry for the late answer. not noticed it earlier Razz

And now my question - xonard dg, cal! headphones. 48 or 96khz ?

I'm not saying anything ...

However, there is an Asus Xonar Phoebus Solo available in Agito.pl for only 415 PLN (~100 euro) with free shipping. Very Happy

(Most likely the shipping is limited to Poland-only but who knows.)

Compare that to ~85 euro for a lot worse component-wise Creative Sound Blaster Z and you get massive prize/quality bargain.

"very nice as for external sound card"... External will be always best for pure sound quality (tho there arent lots of good ones out there, most are USB dacs or so which arent cheap). U7 looks pretty nice tho, atleast its priced nicely.

So bump... i think I need new headphones.. I have xonar dg and CAL! ... and even tho the cal sound great, I am not listening to it too often because it hurts... headband is very hard and not comfortable at all. Watching a movie like hobbit2, I had to take 3 breaks because my head hurts on top.

So now I am agan looking for somethin in 100range (or lower). Don't know if I want external dac/sound card or am I staying with my xonar dg. I think I am good with it tho, so I am mainly looking for new headphones.

I want something with comfort on 1st place and durability or detachable cable but thats hard to find so not a must. It can be either headphone or headset, I don't care as I would not use a microphone anyway so I would detach it.
I am looking for something with warmish signature, rather bassy but also as much clear as possible in mids, highs... but not to harsh. As I like fun headphones to listen to soundtracks and play games, watch movies etc. so all arounders with emphasis on fun

As for now, I just started looking and again, the first recommendation from Breezer came back to my mind. sony mdr-xb700. The price is good and opinions are ok to but very varied.
The new sony wireless stereo 2.0/gold headset also looks promising. can be used on cable or wireless, people say its comfortable but again, sq is debatable... but at least this set is versitale and can be used with consoles, wired or wireless as well as pc.
Was considering a CAL2! but it have the same drivers and same bad hard headband as my current cal so a big no. and the price sucks for it being the same headphone.
edit: philips uptown looks fucking fantastic and well build. the cable seems to suck tho and its a 3 part jack.,, wonder if it would work on my pc

But I do listen!
It's not my fault people advise on equipement for hundreds of $....
how am I to listen if I am asking for one thing and then SpykeZ comes around the corner and says I should buy dac for twice as much as I've asked for headphones Laughing

Now, don't get me wrong spykez. You educated me on this well. Keep in mind that i am not longer looking only at gaming headphones and I did went and got xonard dg... so that's at least something
I am just always looking for better headphone. Cal! is like my 5th pair over the last couple of years and each been little bit more expensive Laughing

@KillerCrocker I'm not sure if there's much sense in trying to help you. Cool Face

As Newty already mentioned, you probably won't listen to any advice or recommendations - quite often disregarding them altogether.

Besides, I'm a bit late to the party. I haven't noticed your new posts in this thread earlier for some odd reason.

However.... Reading this...

... instantly made me think of Sennheiser HD 518.

Comfortable light open headphones with sound characteristics matching exactly what your looking for. Coming with long and thick 3m cable. Getting very favourable reviews everywhere.

On the other hand, it's hard to get any headphones that are made for fun more then CAL! Most of the more expensive models paired with high quality DACs make YouTube music / low-bitrate MP3's sound like shit. Literally. (Especially those with analytical signature.) So careful what you're wishing for because better may not always prove to be "better" in real life scenarios.

I've leaned the hard way while jumping from Creative X-Fi to Xonar Phoebus.

Please also consider reading this article: http://www.audiofanatyk.pl/polecane-sluchawki-nauszne-muzyczne/

Or this in general: http://www.audiofanatyk.pl/category/polecane/

(Only keep in mind that the guy running that site seems to be a bit biased towards AKG, ignoring Sennheiser almost completely. AKGs are usually tailored towards studio applications, therefore giving analytical sound which is not what you want in this case.)

And again consider Sennheiser HD 518 Very Happy

By the way - I see you're slowly becoming an audiophile. Very Happy Surprised Good! Soon you'll be buying an audio equipment worth more money than a good car. Razz

Sorry for nazi grammar. Iam paying from my phone and auto correct fucks shit up

Thanks. I guess I will hold onto cal then as I've tried those senns and hated em. Sound was ok but they were itchy and no seal around ears whatsoever. I loved akg 550 and Sony mdr 1r or philips l1 when I' tried them.all 5 timed more expensive than my fantastic cal and barely sounding better if not only different. Maybe i can find something to wrap around cal headband to make it softer ?

I am by no means becoming an audiophile. Iam just learning how it all works and understanding of it. I feel way more educated than couple of years ago but i don't have money to get into it. That's why i got cal. Its great sound for the buck. And it sounds how I like, warm, bassy but not overpowering mids and highs, 8-16 music or scene stuff sounds great just as punchy music. Great for gaming. . It's just good all arounder ... just the headband is too small. Earcups are great and soft, leather like just how i like.

Iwill read your links tomorrow and see if it's wise to get anything other than xonar dg. With cal i can already hear that mp3 below 320 are sometimes terrible way more than on my previous headphones.

And yep... it is dangerous. Iam finding the urge to buy expensive stuff harder to fight every day. . But easy. ..i know it's stupid. It all sounds the same after certain price point Laughing

@scaramonga Thanks for that sweet words. Whirling cane

@KC Honestly, I don't know what to reply to your post*. Razz If you don't like these Senns and want something for bigger heads, then indeed Sony MDR-1R or rather large AKG K550 seem like a reasonable upgrade. But they all are a lot more expensive than CAL! (since CAL! punches quite high above its weight); therefore I'm not sure whether it's really worth it.

As for the cable, Audeos.pl is offering something interesting. You can try mailing them. Maybe they would be able to offer some help.

When it comes to Asus Xonar DG, I can't really say much because I have never heard one. Although next audible upgrade should oscillate somewhere around 400 PLN. Xonar Phoebus Solo (with its Texas Instruments/Burr-Brown PCM1796 DAC) is very cheap now. NuForce Icon μDAC-2 could also be a good idea.

Asus Xonar DX - hmmm... Tricky that one is - doesn't have headphone amplifier but you probably don't need any now. As for the sound quality (Xonar DX vs Xonar DG), I have absolutely no idea. You can buy one, test it yourself, and tell us what you think then. Cool Face

Keep in mind though that external DACs usually don't offer any surround virtualization technologies for gaming - only "raw" stereo output, without additional goodies.

*the previous one; I had started writing this earlier

Those senns look ok I just don't like velour pads. had one once and was cleaning them all the time.

So for my headphones replacement i decided to stay with CAL! It is indeed fantastic sounding headphone for the price and I would have to spend 4xtimes as much to have something that sounds the same or only a little bit better(if not only different). Cal! sounds warm, bassy and clear in mids, highs just as i want so I don't think there is a reason to change it... actually now to think of it I would prefer to buy another cal if this one will break. It's simply build with 2 wires in each earcup so soldering a cable back or a new cable is rxtremely easy. I like when there is no cable in headband because then I don't have to worry about it.

The only problem with it is comfort of headband. The earpads are great, soft and comfy. Not memory foam but the fake leather is soft and nice enough. The headphone itself is rather durable and looks great. Just the headband is a little bit small and to hard, so my ehad hurts on top after hour of listening. Was thinking if I can do anything about it. Maybe wrap something on the headband? Any ideas ?
found this but some folks at head-fi says it would not fit the cal
http://www.thomann.de/gb/beyerdynamic_dt770_prodt880_pro_kopfgurt.htm

As for sound card. Xonar Dg is rather nice but I wanted something external to isolate the sound from inside of pc + I want to have a headphone jack and volume wheel on my desk comfortably. I don't care for Dolby headphone. Tried it and it's fun but I found myself not using it much. or maybe I should stay internal and just get creative z... not sure.
as for external creative omni looks good.

oh and btw. Where the fuck can I buy a decent but not overpriced headphone stand... I think I will have to make one myself
