SMIM can cause a performance decrease although on current generation GPU's the increased polygon count shouldn't have any larger impact on framerate.
(It's probably improved since I last used it though and it does have several install options.)
Footprints and Enhanced Lights is what I would try first though, along with other script heavy mods, the engine isn't all that efficient with scripts so having several mods active which constantly run checks in the background can have a marked impact on performance and ram usage.
EDIT: Of course script heavy mods can also be difficult to deactivate properly if they leave references behind which stick in the save file although usually the impact of this is pretty minimal.
(On extreme cases it can cause scripts to flip out and you get a very unstable game, severe bloating of references which eventually can damage the save data although I don't think it's all that common.)
i see.
well i'll try it without the Footprints mod, at least this one is not connected with other mods. if i had to disable for example the Better Dynamic Snow mod, i would have to deactivate and reactivate at least 4 more after it.
EDIT: i noticed that when i look at the wooden supports of a house, the game literally stops. i uninstalled the SMIM and there was immediate improvement. the game still stutters a bit at some points, but the complete freezes are gone, which is what i was after.
if you have the skyrim script extender, type this in console also.
"ClearInvalidRegistrations" that will, in theory, get rid of orphaned scripts.
To enable it, you have to add the line "ClearInvalidRegistrations=1" to your skse.ini in your Data/SKSE folder.
you need to play for a while after doing the command btw.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
Lol playing skyrim on anything other than legendary is lame...
And even legendary gets easymode once you get further into the game... i can't seem to ever finish this game since i get bored of how easy it gets :\
*I know that feel*
From my experience you have a couple of options to make everything interesting again: you either install Requiem + Frostfall and/or Basic Needs, or you go with the slightly more "accessible" SkyRe, coupled with all the Deadly modules (Combat, Dragons and creatures/animals/non-humans=all fully tweakable from the menu since they're just numbers/percentages). You can add Frostfall/basic needs + other mods as well, there aren't any compatibility problems afaik.
In the end it's all about personal taste, I've tried both but I'm using the latter at the moment, and for now so far so good. I'm still lvl 20ish, but there are certain places where I can't survive for more than 10 seconds, which is what I wanted . Also with the tweaked values, whenever I encounter a bear or a saber and I'm alone, it's insta-panic attack. One hit and I'm dead already, so most of the times the best approach is to simply run away . Not to mention Dragons!
Most of those pictures are from heavily modified custom ENB configurations that aren't available to the public (Opethfeldt's ENB is downloadable, although it needs to be tweaked), plus basically most of the available texture packs are used as well, and sometimes even some photoshopping
Generally these combinations are purely for showcase/screenshots purpose, since the framerate is very low, unplayable. That Unreal guy stated back then that his game was running at ~10fps with all the mods.
boosting difficulty by just boosting health numbers and changing damage numbers it eh most laziest and lame dev job ever and we have only ourselves to blame to have stood for that shit since forever. I never play on hardest diffculties anymore, its a giant waste of time making me shoot 100* in stead of 3 times zzz . I expect enemies to do different things, pull tricks, outsmart me or out manueuvr me, ambush me, whatever.
Not make me beat him with a stick a 100 times the same way over and over zzz
Impressive.. even uGridsToLoad=9 was pretty stable for me, it usually crashes the game within 10-20 seconds (using TCL and player.setav speedmult 2000), it ran for at least a minute (with the cheats, obviously) which is really good, i bet uGridsToLoad=7 is really stable with this fix.

You can also just grab the modified dll someone made on the reddit thread if you aren't interested in the details and don't want to bother with compiling it yourself.
That's nice indeed, I've never managed to get rid of random crashes even if everything was perfectly installed/loaded correctly. I wonder if this trick will be "ported" to New Vegas as well.
I don't think this applies to my installation. I don't find the message in the log. The file skse_steam_loader.dll isn't even used it seems. Probably cause I'm using a cracked version that doesn't have steam running ?
