Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok is an adventure / RPG hybrid. Like in many adventure games, you have a world to save, and must use your wit, guile and inventory to puzzle your way through. Like in many roleplaying games, you can customize your character with various classes and skills, and must train yourself in combat to stand a chance against the fierce monsters in your way.

The game is designed in the spirit and atmosphere of the classics, and strives to have the same high quality of art, music, and plot. With multiple character classes and several solutions to many puzzles, the game will have excellent replayability.

How long does it take to play the game from start to finish?
A first play through will take many hours, especially if you aim to play the game thoroughly and complete all the side quests.

For indication of the game's size, the game consists of two worlds and three cities, and has a play time comparable to the largest Quest for Glory game. The game also has good replayability with three different classes, each with class specific solutions to many puzzles.

Quote:
The characters all have back stories plus their own interests and needs/wants. They also have schedules and move around to different places at different times of the day.

Not only does each character have a purpose being in the game, but they have their own little story to tell. And you can help them out too, if you like, or you can choose not to. Or, if you like being a pest, you can even be a nuisance to some of them! Many of the characters are very likeable or funny to talk to, and there are even some which you may come to care about.

One cool thing which I have enjoyed seeing in the game is this: Characters aren't always stationary in the one place, and often move to other locations during the day. You can even follow them from room to room! This brings a lot of life and realism to the cities, and is not commonly seen in adventure games at all!

Freeware QFG-inspired great-looking adventure/RPG hybrid in development since 2009. Best news: game is going to be released tomorrow.

QFG fans rejoice! So Much Win So Much Win So Much Win

Play it guys and gals, seriously. I think it's better at times than QFG, and that's a really good recommendation.

http://forum.caravelgames.com/viewboard.php?BoardID=17 Check the board if you're stuck. It's not a simple game, and there are some puzzles that STILL have not been solved Very Happy

Wasn't too impressed. Too much boring dialogue you can't skip. I guess in an SSD era I have become too impatient for this kind of stuff. Happy NY everybody.

You can skip it. Just press any key and you'll advance to next dialog screen.

P.S.
Certain doom creature was awesome!

Does anyone know how to edit graphical settings to get a better resolution? I've read that going into acsetup.cfg and changing gfxdriver to gfxdriver=DX5 and then also changing gfxfilter=max to gfxfilter=Hq3x gives better graphics (they are not so much pixelated) but then windows size is kinda small.

Great game, btw.

Well, set "gfxfilter=Hq4x" then.

Although, I would rather prefer retro pixelated look then burly anti-aliased look.

Thanks Peter. I managed to get a little bit bigger game window with hqx3 since hqx4 gives me very small window.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

A bit of a thread necro, but the game just got updated to the latest version of AGS engine, so it will run without problems on new hardware.

If you still haven't played it I recommed you do. It's a fantastic, free, Quest for Glory-esque game, better than some similar games which came out in the last 10 years, including those made by people who actually did Quest for Glory Very Happy

The overall plot remains the same, but there are a lot of differences wheter you play as a mage, a warrior or a rogue.
