I've given up playing the main game as I lost my cloud save and can't be arsed to play through it all again. Ubisoft should really learn to back up their servers so their customers don't lose their save games. It's really pathetic service. If they can't manage their cloud servers properly don't use them at all.

I'll just complete Freedom Cry and then uninstall the game.

I can see the value of having a cloud service but personally I don't think it's currently reliably enough to enable so for Origin, Uplay and Steam I keep it disabled although Steam is likely pretty robust by now. Smile

All three services also has their own ways for storing data so backing up the save and profile info manually gets a bit complex though it really helps if some save data would ever get damaged.

For Assassin's Creed IV or rather for Ubisoft's Uplay/Orbit data the saves are stored here ->

C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames\{}\273\

{} will be a string of numbers and letters specific to your own account profile, 273 is the ID the game has, similar to how Origin and Steam separate content although it's only really visible on Steam since the product page on their website will also be the products ID number.

Unfortunately all three services also have different encryption and such so save files from one valid account to another won't usually work whereas all releases from the same scene group are usually interchangeable. Smile
(Unfortunate that you can't just download a 100% save and replay the content that way when you lose progress like this, was especially a problem with LIVE if I remember correctly.)

EDIT: Maybe it would be easier if the cloud data was upload only without replacing the local copy, or that you could synch both manually, thus if one is damaged the other is fine and can replace the damaged copy with the press of a button in the client or some such.
(If something like that was ever implemented though then if done wrong it'll damage the working copy however.)

EDIT: Really though the main issue is that you only have one profile file and that save data and such is tied to that, these checkpoint save methods have their downsides.

Ubisoft Would Delay An Assassin’s Creed ‘If It’s Not Good Enough’

Quote:
Speaking to IGN in a conversation about delays, Ubisoft North American president Laurent Detoc said that Ubisoft would break Assassin’s Creed's annualized schedule by delaying a game "if it's not good enough."

“If we think we’ve ended up with a 70 percent Assassin’s Creed game, we’re not going to ship it,” Detoc told IGN. “That damages the brand. I’m not going to give you the names of products, because you know them as well as I do, but if you start to make games at 70 percent, even with a big brand, eventually people are going to change their mind about that brand. They won’t want it anymore. That’s what saves the recurrence. There are 30 million people or so who have been playing Grand Theft Auto. Last year, to pick a round number, we had about 10 million people playing Assassin’s Creed. When we come up with an Assassin’s Creed the next year, there’s another 10 million brand new people who might be interested in the new setting, because of the new history, or the new naval battles and the pirates. It’s a variation on gameplay from even last year.”

OK, total newb to the AC series.......

I installed the game, it runs and looks AMAZING....but stopped playing after a few minutes to come here and ask my questions.....

Does this game have any type of loot, or rewards for searching around?

I don't really want to play it if it is the type of game where I have a weapon, and then 2 hours later I get a new weapon because of the plot.....also do the outfits and weapons have stats at all?

Basically wanting to be able to sneak around and get rewarded for searching (ie gothic 1 and 2)

No need to search - it's all marked on the map once you climbed the specific towers and take a look around. There are templar keys and maya stones for example which will give you armor. Afaik stats there are stats on those but they can be ignored Razz

You don't gain any better weapons as the plot progresses. That's all side stuff. No stats for clothing, I think. There are simple stats for weapons, but they don't do much, AFAIK. The game's pretty damn easy no matter what weapons you have. So I'd say the changes are mostly just cosmetic.

Naval is different, however. Your ship is extremely underpowered when you acquire it, but with upgrades it becomes almost too powerful. I suggest fully upgrading cannon damage, swivel guns, and ram last if you want naval to remain challenging (which it is, if you hold of upgrading for long enough).

As for buried treasures (which sometimes also contain ship upgrade plans), chests and other collectibles (like fragments), they are mostly useful early in the game when you need money. Later, when you gain access to your fleet (if you have a legit version, that is Very Happy) they become quite redundant. I personally collected everything just so I could reach 100% snyc. Very Happy

And if you want to find treasures by exploring, I suggest not syncing any viewpoints, because doing so reveals everything in the viewpoint's vicinity. Or you can turn off the mini map (or even the entire HUD), which makes the game far more challenging and immersible, but sometimes, unfortunately, also a lot more frustrating.

I'm impressed with the Freedom Cry DLC. I like the story so far and how you can free slaves and take over slave ships. Plus how they tie in rewards for freeing slaves, so it has purpose.

The disappointment however, is the lack of customization for the ship and Adéwalé. Plus the ship itself is basically the Jackdaw, another brig, but with less firepower Sad

And I really don't get the fast travel for some of the island, since they have no benefit other than the one or two chests you collect from them. Not sure why you would need to fast travel to an empty location?

Maybe they upped the graphics, but the game, for me, is sluggish. Never had any performance issue with Black Flag.

Can't get the DLC to work..
v11 + savefile gives me corrupt savefile in menu
v12 supposedly should get rid of needing a savefile, but even after restarting the game 7 times it still doesn't give me the option "additional content"...

Everything was done with the Russian forum files that got provided there.. Neutral

Is the game updated to 1.04 properly?
(1.01, 1.02, 1.03 and then 1.04 since if I remember correctly that pack was not cumulative.)

I only did the 1.04 that had the DLC in it, guess that is caused the issue? I can't revert back since i don't have the image anymore and currently on an unstable 300kb/s wifi Sad

Then why not get the RELOADED's DLC which has all the previous updates bundled in it?

Are Optional Objectives required to 100% completion of the game? Could you repeat the missions after, say, finishing the game?

Yes. The optional objectives in the main missions count to 100% completion. You can repeat any sequence at any point of time.

Gawd, I just kind of want to finish the game already lol. 70% in, and I just got access to the "hard" areas, I think I'm still on sequence 8.

Enjoying it, but I think because I did so much of the side stuff I'm starting to get a bit burnt out.

Need to upgrade my ship, cause I'm having some problems with the sea fighting missions. Any suggestions on what I should upgrade first, I'm one tick away from the highest hull strength, and about 2 away from broadside cannons.

If it's unlocked, I'd get the elite RAM. And the elite Heavy Shot.

If you stay behind a ship with an elite ram, its no contest against ships. You can just keep ramming them until you can board them. The RAM is lethal.

Well I didn't unlock ram till the end of game just to have achievement, becouse iMHO it is ugly Very Happy Friend of mine was using ram to get rid of legendary ships fast, but I didn't use it once.
I just upgraded main guns and ones for precise shooting, it was enough for me. It is matter of taste becouse I didn't much mortar till man'o'wars for example.

And yes, it is good to upgrade armor first, specially when fixing it is very cheap.

You definitely need your Hull armour to be at the maximum. That should be your first and foremost priority, next to Broadside cannons and Elite Ram. This should be more than enough to wipe out the Man-o-Wars. The Legendary ships would need at least 80% upgrades for Jackdaw to be in place, before even being approached. You'll be ripped to shreds otherwise.
