THIS!!
How is this even possible? Are you on caffeine pills or something? |
I've worked 60 hours a week almost every week for the last (almost) fifteen years. I work for my family's muffler shop. I also modify consoles, repair/refurb old arcade and pinball machines, and I dabble in commercial real-estate (but I mostly just read contracts and handle my dad's real-estate website, which amounts to ~8 hours a week...every week). Oh, and recently I've been helping a buddy of mine with some video editing/compositing work for a couple of local bands; but that's usually on a Friday night or Saturday morning before I go to the shop to work my five hour shift
An average week goes something like this (get up at 5:30-5:45 on Monday, walk/jog/run at least a mile on the elliptical while reading over any contracts that I had to read the day before), quick shower then off to work to open the shop at 7:00. Work there all day until 6:00 (sometimes I actually get to sit down to eat my lunch!). Go home, read any contracts/documents that I didn't have time to read while at the shop, take a shower, eat dinner, then out to the garage (or the sunroom, during winter) and work on any outstanding arcade/pinball cabs that need some work (my turnaround for a basic refurb of something like Centipede, Galaga, Moon Patrol is like a week; for your average, mostly mechanical, pinball cab, it's like a month...LOTS of things to oil/grease). Then, before bed, perhaps a little gaming or playing guitar/piano to relax (along with a fresh balloon of vaporized marijuana). Of course, I usually don't go to bed until ~midnight. Then, get up on Tuesday and do the same. Until Saturday, that is. I only work a 5 hour shift on Saturdays so I have a lot of time to work on/finish other projects. Then, on Sundays, I usually take some time (a few hours, anyway) to devote to video games and just relax and unwind. Then, I go to bed late Sunday night for my early Monday morning...
That's how it gets done.
Of course, there are some weeks where all I do is my normal 60 hour work week. And during those weeks, I'm usually sitting on my ass while at the shop and browsing the hump with you lot.
This year has been especially grueling, I broke up with my girlfriend of 10 years and needed to make a shit load of money to pay my bills/mortgage (since she wasn't living there anymore to help out with utility bills). Of course, I found a better woman to fill that/my void and have been spending a lot of money wining and dining her (not to mention all of the lube that I now require to follow y'all's sage advice of FHITB).
Money in my world ebbs and flows so I try to take advantage of the money while it's there. And, of course, I put away a substantial amount toward my (eventual) retirement (~20% out of each paycheck). And, since Obamacare has begun, I'm now going to have even more money to futz about with (thanks to the subsidies and tax credits), even though my insurance premiums went up $32 a month, I'm getting $67 a month in subsidies and $13 a month in tax credits (which I have opted to only receive once a year, in my income tax refund).
Yeah, I've kind of got my shit together (for now) and am really enjoying life. It's pretty awesome to be able to afford such gifts for Christmas (or any other time, for that matter) and still have enough left to donate to charity or buy a shiny new bauble for someone you want to put your penis in...

I work minimum 15 hours every day. between 5 and 7 days a week.
As for present for myself;
Got some new stuff for my PC Watercooling.
Also bought a bunch of new pc parts for dad, so I can build one of them fancy silent mini-pc's. Always wanted that, and he needs new computer. So I filled mine and his wish in his present |
Aren't you a truck driver? I thought that truck drivers have strict code of driving/resting periods so that they won't cause accidents, since the job is really difficult...

Exactly.
We're allowed to work upto 15 hours a day, and drive upto 10 hours a day.
And a lot of times we use some of our 9 hour resting/sleeping time to load/unload. The black box wont know as long as we don't move the truck.
And then there's all the illegal stuff we do to drive while the system thinks we're sleeping.
Last week I worked 19 hours 3 out of 5 days. Then only around 15 the other 2.
I hate you.

No gifts to myself but...
I am amazed how spoiled I got this Christmas. From my girlfriends mom and stepfather I got: The last of us on PS3 and a book from Neil DeGrasse Tyson <3
And from her dad and stepmother we got 1500 SEK and 4 Cinema tickets.
Also the way they made me feel at home during Christmas, really grapefruit for that. Been a year since I moved to Sweden and they kept me from missing my family too much during this time.
Yup really feel spoiled this christmas... the feels <3
