Quote:
Stalingrad has become hell and paradise for those who were worthy of awards, but the only reward they managed to get was love. How they won, and how they were not defeated, who they were and who was on the other side of the street, what secret they have taken away with them - the movie will tell this story. Written by Iliya Tilkin

The plot is based on "a dramatic love story against the backdrop of a grand battle". The action takes place in 1942 when the German troops occupied the bank of the Volga river. Having failed while attempting to cross the Volga and launch a counter-offensive on the German army, the Soviet troops were forced to retreat. However, a few soldiers managed to get to the shore of the enemy. They remain in the minority, and hide in a coastal house, where they met a girl. The Germans occupied her home, and she did not have time to leave the front line. Against the backdrop of the most bloody battle in the mankind history develops a love story, and from that moment the soldiers have to protect this girl at any cost. Written by Ekaterina Rybakova

'Enemy At The Gates' this ain't. If only some Marilyn Manson knockoff wasn't singing What a Wonderful World and the scenes they showed weren't "SLOWMO AND EXPLOSHUNS!", then we might be able to take this seriously as a possible dramatic war movie.

Oh, and it's in 3D. Poker Face

I wonder why they still haven't attached '3D' to end of the movie's title. Laughing It's such a modern and original technique of sucking a few more naive and uneducated customers in. Laughing

It's unfortunate that trailers (even more so with International films) are commercials that appeals to the masses. The film itself might be alot more intelligent than the above. I'm just glad to see big production war films, outside the "Hollywood sphere".

I've never heard of this director before, but if that visceral oomph trailer is any indication of the full movie, well I don't know if I'm really interested

No, it's not. It's just nothing special, standard hollywood bullshit like enemy at the gates and private ryan.

I thought Saving Private Ryan was pretty amazing when I saw it in the cinema at the time. I was only 16-17 though, and my Grandfather was part of the people landing in the Normandy coast (Not first wave though).

Maye if I rewatch it, it'll turn out worse.

edit: Damn, that is already 15 years ago. Laughing Sad

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

What I meant is that you might expect something uber profound from Russian cinema (as it usually was), but this movie is made for overseas distribution and thus looks as your standard hollywood flick. tearjerking, fx, cg and awesome color correction Troll Face

Colors look silly... I'm quite sure this turns out to be the same garbage as Pearl Harbor.

Just look at this and the silly video above...

that movie is one of the best war movies made so far. highly underrated, yet, it descibes the war with an honest look, that is terrifying.
