Man.... when do I finally get to do the underwater sections.

I'm about 45% complete, and still says I need to progress through story. Also for those legendary ships, are we meant to take them on after completing the game, there is no way I could survive that fight at this point.

Maximum ship upgrades basically, you can do that pretty much halfway through the game, but it will still take a combination of luck and strategy Very Happy As for Ubi going back to always-online (dressing it up as "gameplay elements" of course, it's definitely not DRM.. nononono...) it was to be expected Sad

Well.. I have almost fully upgraded ship and yet legendary ship lvl 70 ripped me quite easy. I think i need to work on strategy... Anyways game balance is rather funny, man'o'war is not turning much slower than my brig.... Maybe is not turning slower at all. For such a big ship it should be a problem.
Also resistance to normal shots is annoying, only heavy and mortars can harm them. Oh well, I need to upgrade mortars then.

You don't need full upgrades - maybe just some hull strength. Rush to the back of the enemy ship and ram them, then just stay at their back in a T shape - with your broadside towards their stern - it's quite easy if you keep yourself connected. They have no guns there, and can't hit you with mortars. Your ship is too small to be hit by the occasional barrels. You might take some damage going in and maybe some partial weirdly placed mortar shots.

Problem is that when I am closing I can't see mortar spots. Oh... and I can't ram it - don't have that upgrade becouse I don't like the look of the ship Very Happy

Fully upgraded ram makes it so much easier, fuck the mortars, you can take a quarter of their health with one ram, you need to get the diving bell first though, to find the upgrade plan.

Possibly silly question, are you supposed to "brace" when ramming another ship, I always seem to get damaged as well.

dont think so.

edit: try taking out the ship at the southeast first since it's the easiest

Yeah when it's three identical ships against one another it's up to the firing speed if you don't have firebarrels available, usually you'll lose one ship and take heavy damage on the other two but if the AI has the faster speed you'll likely lose.
(I've lost three ships so far, by now however all ships have been replaced by level 40 or above Men-o-War with two level 60 ships, one English and one Spanish.)

Men-O-War however are really slow so trips now take ten real-time hours per average (Some missions take 18 hours or longer.) although I've finally unlocked all routes as of yesterday so in a day or two I should have all the codex items and that last equipment unlock. Smile
(And then I'll never bother with it again.)

I hadn't lost a single battle yet and the only reason I didn't use any of my 80+ fire barrels was because I was looking away from the screen and didn't notice Sad Man.. three ships for a stupid mistake *and* against the supposed 100% chance. How can you lose with 100% odds? Neutral

I don't know how it calculates those chances but I usually stack it so it's always 100% and even then there's been some close calls even if I've managed to minimize actually losing ships, mostly thanks to having a barrel or two to spare.
(I think it just goes by ship level, not their actual stats but I could be wrong, thus it's a bit misleading.)

I am not sure, but this "brace" option makes you and your crew to cover and it should minimize your crew losses from enemy fire.

hmm so I have all the upgrades except the elite fire barell storage, all islands explored and maps collected so where is it?

So now I'm reading you have to be online to get this map, meaning you can't fully upgrade the ship offline Confused

Elite Fire Barrel Storage (Treasure Map)

Cadaver Location: Kenway’s fleet acquires it after completing mission “Scarlatina”.

Adewale DLC is confirmed for 17th Dec even for PC , they just exuded it from adwertisments
http://blog.ubi.com/assassins-creed-iv-black-flag-freedom-cry-dlc-release-date-adewale/
Quote:
For Adéwale, freedom isn’t just a vague concept. The charismatic quartermaster who co-starred alongside Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag was once enslaved himself – until he forged his own path to freedom, then turned to a life of piracy and eventually embraced the Creed. And now he’s taking center stage in the story-driven single-player DLC Freedom Cry, which will be out on December 17 on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Set 15 years after the end of Black Flag, Freedom Cry stars an older Adéwale, who has since stepped out of Kenway’s shadow to become a seasoned Assassin and valued member of the Brotherhood. When the DLC begins, Adéwale is shipwrecked in St. Domingue (modern-day Haiti), where he comes face to face with some of the most brutal slavery in the West Indies. As he makes his way through St. Domingue, Port-au-Prince and the surrounding seas, Adéwale will counter the abominable cruelty festering in the region with his own ruthless justice, delivered via bloody machete, powerful blunderbuss – and while aboard his fearsome brig Experto Crede.

(knock on wood) I have yet to lose a ship in my fleet, but then again they are all lvl 60 man of wars with the exception of my one brig lol.

I use man of wars exclusively unless the AI has a gunboat or schooner, then I use my brig and 2 man of wars .

+1 You can easily take out any ship if you keep ramming them in the back.

Is it possible to buy the Aveline DLC?
Is it included with the season pass?

AFAIK it's only included with the Digital Deluxe and I bought the retail Buccaneer Edition.

Various bits of backstory exists, either on the Initiates website (That mini-game you can see from the main menu.) or from other sources such as Assassin's Creed III or the various books that are also available now to expand upon the history that the game universe contains.
(I think you learn a bit about it in the actual game as well although it's pretty brief about it.)

You could check the wiki too for a better summary although there will be some spoilers:
http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Edward_Kenway
(As a example, info starts from before the events in the game begins and continues on past those and then up until his death.)

Been like that since Assassin's Creed 2 I believe, if you wanted the full story you needed to read the books that Ubisoft tied in with the games or play the Mobile titles.
(I think there were two tie-ins to the first game as well, expanding a bit on Altair's storyline.)

You can understand most of it by playing the actual game but some details are greatly expanded in other sources like say Haytham's role in Assassins Creed III which you don't really see much of while playing as Connor.
(I've mostly used the Wiki myself, only own the main games in this franchise, none of the side materials like the novels or mobile/handheld games.)

The Initiates website has a lot of scattered info in a sort of timeline from the Precursors (4.000 BC or when it was.) to the events with Desmond in 2012 but it's spread throughout various mini-games and other methods so I'd recommend reading the Wikia articles on stuff that weren't fully clarified in the actual game should you be interested. Smile

EDIT: I'm also a bit unsure but I don't think they cut any major events from the games to sell as literature or showcase in other separate games but they expand on a variety of information that the games didn't cover in greater detail.
(Such as Altair and Maria or Ezio's final years, Haytham's sister or Kenway's early years to name some stuff.)
