so the capacitors on my old dell 2407 were blown to bits yesterday, and while i'm trying to repair it, i thought i might as well move on to one of those new fancy schmancy 27" 1440p ones. don't really want to spend more than ~500€
primarily, i need the bigger sreen real estate for work, good colors (but nothing on a really professional level) and not being too shit for gaming. i don't really give a fuck about 120+hz monitors right now (apart from the fact that they would require me to upgrade my 6950. and yes, i know that 1440p would require me to get a new gfx card anyway, but i can get that once new demanding games are out (not playing much besides eve and indie games right now) - besides, interpolation on 1440p doesn't look that shit imo (compared to 720p interpolation on a 1200p/1080p display)
current comeptitors:
Dell U2713HM - seems to be a nice allrounder, price fits my budget as well. reading user reviews seems there is quite the spread of fuckups over the same revision (backlight bleed, noise because of dithering when reading loads of text), but when buying over amazon 1-3 returns should get me a good one (statistically)
Samsung S27A850D LED - pls panel seems good, but picture homogenity seems a bit shit. still also a good allrounder
other option would be korean/whatever asain cheap ones, but i've got no clue what the market looks like there right now. any recommendations?

Can't go wrong with the Korean monitors like QNIX QX2710 tbh.
Yes, 1440p but nothing stops you from running games on lower res really, the extra space on desktop makes a huge difference over 1080p and you will have best of both worlds really, good colors and higher refresh rate for gaming.

I prefer ultra-wide for gaming. Can't imagine going back to 16:9 tbh. It would be like looking out of a box again.. same as going from SD to HD. But if you'll be buying it for both work and gaming then most likely a 1440p would be better. Dell one imo.

everything looking like dog shit when LCD isn't ran on native res stops you from running games on lower res...
might as well go for 1080p and play all games smoothly and at native res, instead of having windows in 1440p and games in some non-native res |
Well I guess you might be right, but pros play CSGO on low res on these monitors too so it can't be bad right????
I just couldn't imagine going back to 1080p when I got my monitor and my friends XL2420T next to eachother, the QNIX is just sooooo much better. |
They also play with low graphical settings to get 3000 fps and less postprocessing effects etc so hardly the right bunch of people to base your reasoning on

Except for the fact that visual fidelity is a not a factor for them.
