Well they have to keep it at the same level as their target audience. Razz

Been a while since I've read the J.R.R Tolkien books myself though, don't have all of them but I have Lord of the rings, Hobbit and I think one was called Silmarillion.

Haven't followed this game at all though so I apologize if the developers were actually saying that they would be committed to the source material and target a mature audience.
(I was expecting a Hack & Slash action game with RPG elements going by the name, setting and these latest screenshots, haven't watched the trailer.)

Reading the wikipedia description of the game's plot, it sounds like the target audience is console tardos.

Quote:
The game takes place between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings, as written by J.R.R. Tolkien.[1] The family of ranger Talion is killed by Sauron's armies, and he himself is also killed, but soon revived with "wraith-like abilities" and heads to Mordor to exact his revenge.[3] Mordor is not yet a barren wasteland in this story.[4]
The story involves the Rings of Power, but the story is separate to The Lord of the Rings canon. However, Warner Bros. maintains that the stories will align.[3] The player will encounter Gollum in the game, discovering that Talion and Gollum have a lot in common.[2]

Sounds very tolkien-like. Laughing

Why bother making Tolkien games if they aren't even going to stick to the lore. I guess it's impossible to create one that doesn't include limited magic, "wraith-like abilities" or other nonsense.

It looks like it could be interesting enough in terms of gameplay.

But then I find it hard to look past the fact that their made up bullshit is going to produced under Tolkien's name. This is even worse than that "Syndicate" FPS and it doesn't even FIT the fucking lore in any way (Soul Reaver would've been more fitting) Vomit

Still the minion system, assassinations... if they don't fuck this up completely it actually might be fun Smile

Looks fun, but I still can't get over the fact that the hero gets lore-breaking superpowers for no good reason.

Exactly, if he was just a normal Ranger, carrying out missions behind enemy lines, using cunning, guile, blackmail, torture, straight up combat, that would have been awesome.

This is just Assassins Creed in Middle Earth.

Even the wraith vision is almost a 1:1 copy of the Eagle visio xD

Good thing I'm not too picky about Middle Earth stuff. Razz

The climbing and leaping-on-enemies look like a clunkier version of AssCred1, combat seems like an equally clunky mix between AssCred and the Arkham games. What really interests me is that thing with the orc leaders. I HIGHLY doubt they can make it half as engaging as it looks from the video. If it really is random orcs, each with developing history with the player over time, and not just scripted bullshit in canned locations with the illusion of depth, then it just might be worth playing.

Pretty much this, but I love AC games, so hey Cool Face

It also helps that I hate LOTR and Hobbit with passion, so I don't really care about lore differences.

This is not lore differences. This is plain and pure butchering for the sake of having a connection to LotR to attract attention. It does not fit in any way. Same shit they did with Syndicate.

This is like someone taking AC and making the protagonist a shapeshifter that turns into a flying shark because, you know, the word eagle was mentioned in the lore. Totally legit.

The only part of that video that didn't look like regurgitated mediocrity was the whole enemy-linking/tracking system.

However, I'm sure it'll end up being a shallow and poorly utilized system. It takes time and effort to make something like that work on a deep level, and it's obvious their time was spent watching Assassin's Creed Let's Plays.

Random copy-pasta generic AAA 3rd person action game represents!
Same parkour style as AC, uninspired combat, eagle vision with hand-holding and "look here! you're a retard" interface, nextgen mehsauce at its finest. Could still be somewhat passable, assuming that it will be possible to disable these aspects and/or use different approaches.

But still, what a wasted opportunity, innovation where are thou. Can't comment on the LOTR-related business as I'm not expert on the subject, and anything is fine to me as long as the gameplay doesn't suck. Razz

It really really sadens me that whenever we get a LOTR game it's just from people who are out to make a quick buck.

If they deliver what they promise with the Nemesis system, it could be a pretty decent game. Until the next AC comes along Wink

But I agree that the wraith power is EXACTLY like eagle vision. The game is obviously a AC knock off , but looks pretty damn good.
