Quote:

Key Features:

Magic Booster

When Magic Booster is used, the player’s inventory of the following spells is increased by 100:

Cure, Cura, Curaga, Fire, Fira, Blizzard, Blizzara, Thunder, Thundara, Sleep, Blind, Silence, Berserk, Bio, Esuna, Aero, Confuse, Break, Zombie

This feature can be used from the launcher.

Chocobo World

This version of FFVIII includes the full game “Chocobo World” that was released as a separate application for previous versions. It is possible to play “Chocobo World” directly from the launcher after booting up FFVIII and by fulfilling certain specific conditions in the main game you will also be able to synchronise data between the two games.

No mention of the supposed "remastered" visuals/cutscenes though. I wonder if this will shop on SteamGifts? So Much Win

I never played FFVI. I've been meaning to, I just haven't bothered to grab an emulator and play it.

If I had to rank the ones I HAVE played..

FFVIII
FFIX
FFX/FFVII
FFXIII
FFXII (played for 10 minutes)
FFX-2 (didn't finish)

No way am I 100% PC Master Race - I may joke about it because PC is my preferred platform (<3 consolitis Razz) but I play on any platform really and love my PS360 combo. As for XIII, I've played and finished it once on PS3 and 360 each - the PS3 version was the best one though saying "best" when FFXIII is concerned is hilarious Laughing

I wouldn't really know much about this but watching the movie files (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\FINAL FANTASY VIII\Data\movies) they appear to be 720P upscales or something, unless they somehow look much better in-game.

EDIT: Or maybe they are just poorly compressed, this one for example is 24 MB.

(All are in the .avi format.)

EDIT: The launcher pops up one of those warning notices for seizures and then you have to accept their policy for account usage and related stuff.

Options for video settings are resolution, Fullscreen on/off, Linear Filtering on/off, Keep Aspect Ratio on/off, Original graphic mode on/off and if the game is paused while minimized or otherwise not in focus.

EDIT: Played it for a bit, just like the FF7 Steam release windowed mode will probably be preferred as it'll be pretty pixelated at larger resolutions.
(The black bars is because I kept the original aspect ratio, it can be toggled in the video options from the launcher but I find it better than stretching the screen.)

Heh... The one and only FF game I played. And liked.

And for its time, its graphics where awesome (on PC). Maybe even too "flashy".

But port suffered from awful keyboard controls.

Wait what it's out?!
Well I won't be giving them 13 euros just like that though. The original + OpenGL wrapper + PS1 sound rework works fine even as a nonsteam shortcut with overlay support. Achievements are not worth that much to me Laughing

I'm glad FF8 still holds up pretty damn good in comparison to...khm...LRFF13 xD
(yes, alpha screenshot, HUD is not final but the arena doesn't look any better in the final version)

Something updated.

AF3DN.P which I don't really know what it does and strings.dat which I assume is the system localization.
(Menus and such, not for the actual game but maybe it's for that too.)

(There's a AF4DN.P file as well but it was not updated, I don't know the game engine so I have no idea what these .P files do.)

Mm I got curious... You didn't do this in 2009 then you disappear and resurface in 2011 with the 'men' routine. Did the KGB men capture and reprogram you? Shocked

apparently, the fmvs in the steam version are significantly worse and blurred in comparison to the ones in the 1999 pc port

wtf... Sad

The FMV movies in the original PC release were apparently higher quality than the PS1 equivalents but with this re-release those PS1 movies is what we got.
(Although at a 720P resolution though to me it looks nearly like it's just upscaled.)

v1.0.10-2 released today. No changelog as usual.
AF3DN.P and strings.dat only.
Expect some 3DM magic I guess.

I couldn't resist and grabbed it a while back when it was on sale.

The Steam release works. That's it.
The original release needs Aali's OpenGL driver to properly work in high resolution. I think the battle transitions don't work well with any version and 0.7.11b has a rendering bug in regular scenes which is fixed for the next release...which is coming for the last three years lol. Latest stable working one for FF8 is 0.7.9b.

Roses and Wine mod for better quality music and FMV packs are still nice to have for any version. But those forced 15fps battles...damn.

Speak of the devil, I just finished a *mammoth* replay of this yesterday - all magic, all cards, all items, Omega. Still my favourite in the series, the music is incredible and YES; do use Roses & Wine if you want a good experience otherwise you'll have terrible midi tracks instead. It's a shame about the 15fps battles but you do get used to it eventually. The menus run at 60, world exploration is 30fps and movies/battles run at 15.

FF6 isn't called 3 anywhere but America, so it's definitely FFIII - as in the NDS/Android/iOS one. If it's coming at all that is Smile
