I think I'm going to buy the Avenger game pack, that should be enough for now.

Just be sure to read everything properly! Look out if it comes with beta/alpha access and so on. You wouldn't just want to buy a spaceship and not be able to play until 2015

I really hope they nail the in space flying, should be as close as possible to freelancer style IMO.
That alone will make or break this whole game for me.

x rebirth..clone...?
come on man it's very early in development. we only get to see all this so early because it's crowdfunded.
Normally they just wouldn't show anything until later on, like normal games (witcher 2)
it looks barebones because that's how games are when you create them.
You have some models.. you have some empty space... what is there to show?
give it time.

I don't think it should be like Freelancer. ESPECIALLY the space flying aspect of it. The flying "physics" were fucking terrible in Freelancer.

The hype is easy enough to understand. Games focused on space flight/combat, sim or otherwise, have been pretty thin on the ground in the last decade or so. Throw a starving man in the desert a cracker and he is going to get pretty excited over it. It remains to be seen if Star Citizen is a Ritz, or just a regular old cracker.

Then you also have the pedigree of the developers and the fact that that know how to make space combat titles. It's in heavy development right now, not even remotely close to being finished, so everything shown is *literally* a work in progress and barely even considered alpha.

They might be "terrible" in the sense of having "physics", but that made it so appealing to quite a lot of people. Because it was quite easy to fly around and make those manoeuvres, it appealed to me personally. Plus it brought it some fast gameplay (compared to other titles out there) with it.
But what i meant was more the way the system handles your input.. For example, what i liked doing was when getting chased, hit "x" so my engine would turn off and i was "gliding", turn 180 and start firing the enemy while still moving in the same direction i was going before, hitting x back on (or just used tab to boost), go behind the enemy and do the same.
(man just thinking about this urges me to reinstall Freelancer... But the UI scaling to 1080p and other hassle you have to go trough these days to play online is horrid

Woah..... nice dude.
Also, I should probably pre-order Star Citizen finally, I'm guessing a lot of you already have reserves?
Thinking about the $40/$45 package.... too soon perhaps?

Ever time I see the thread title, my mind says "Star Citizen (Chris Roberts is black!)"

I think you all are gullible saps, relying on a 10 year old reputation and some fancy looking demos. Chris Roberts indeed is a well known game designer with great credentials but there are so many things that can go wrong with this thing it's not even funny. I mean, of course you can choose to be oblivious about that fact, it's your own dough - controls, balancing, hardware optimization, story, missions, details, etc. etc. - everyone seems to be sold on this because they've seen some detailed models in a confined area.
Do I still -hope- that something becomes of this? You-betcha, but I wouldn't spend money on it at this stage. There's way too many factors involved where just some details wrong would sour the milk very quickly.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

That's exactly why I didn't pledge. I still think this could fail as equally hard as it could be a success.
Doesn't mean that I'm not hyped as fuck about this. Oh no, you wouldn't believe

I pledged the minimum amount and not a penny more so I'm taking a regular risk. Of all the games I backed, it seems only about a third seem to be living up to expectations - Broken Sword has been released now and is ace so far, but on the other hand Shadowrun was lukewarm and Double Fine don't seem to be doing what I expected or wanted them to do, either. The colourful and whacky graphics of the 90's is what I expected, not indie-style graphics that seem dull and uninspired.

The Hangar model feels more done than released games these days and it's alpha so I'm not too worried and the other fact that I just backed the minimum back in the days.
