why do we need hd-dvd or blue ray for gods sake we have 9gigs at our disposal at the moment how many games are going to push over 9 gigs and if it does its just tons of fmv and extras. they can be ripped out and games can go onto dvd9 or dvd5 nice Smile

As for framerate, the 360 version runs smooth, while the PS3 is a jaggy mess that chugs along in slow motion.

I can only remember a few games that were on dvd9 but it wasnt for game content, it was for trailers and demos. So, in that, I dont see the need for anything bigger. I know some out there say we should always get the newest stuff in new hardware but it just dont make sense this time. I say sony should drop that blu-ray $100+ drive and stick with dvd and keep the console price low.

The PS3 sure as hell need blue-ray since it's getting a crapload of console-rpg's (already ~14 announced). There are already rpg's on the ps2 that take up 2disc's or 1 dvd9, so there will easily be much bigger games than that on the PS3. Now these console-rpg developers can do whatever they want, and that fricking rocks. Smile

You gotta figure half of those won't get released right away if at all. Then there's theres the factor of the companies still just sticking them on 2-4 discs anyway.I mean Microsoft has already announced 5-7 mmorpgs but that doesn't mean they actually are gonna use the HD_DVD for them.It will most likely still go the way of 2-4 discs if you ask me,but this is just my opinion.I know HP is arguing publicly about intel and microsoft backing HD-DVD while they are supporting Blu-Ray.This format war is gonna get way out of hand.

And one more note about encryptionl dont forget that the encrypted data at some point is meant to be decrypted for the xbox360 to be used. It is not just some random encrypted packages that are not meant to be used.

And the issue of media, you dont have to use intended media format.

well all i know is dreamcast was dead in the water until it was realised that copys could be played and the boot disk was released and guess what sega could not make enough of em as the sales went mad and then so did the software, this might be something ms should take note of.

I remember how nobody wanted one then all of a sudden everyone and their cat wanted one. Crazy stuff.

I read that they will be releasing the HD-DVD with future console systems or you can buy it as an addon if you have the console without the HD-DVD in it.Who knows. All I know is that the wait for the ps3 will be a very long one unfortunatley. They are saying some where in mid to late 2007 for U.S. players.

This is what Allard had to say about the 360 hack:

Q: Do you have office pools running on how long it will take hackers to mod the 360?

JA: No, we don't. We don't have office pools like that. We do know that they're already being very ambitious with it and it's flattering in a way. There will be the hobbyists that want to rip it apart. There'll still be the pirates that want to rip it off. We can't avoid that. The philosophy that we applied on 360 is, "It's going to happen."

With Xbox 1, we were not in denial, although we said, "Let's build a system and we can stop it." With 360, we said, "Let's assume we can't stop it. How are we going to manage it?" Because it is going to happen. They are going to attack. They are going to have some form of success. What can we do in the Live business and the Live community? What can we do with the media? What can we do at retail? What can we do with connectivity to try to put a really big speed bump in place and, most importantly, protect the gamers from the hackers making it a crappy experience with them? Because that's my biggest nightmare.

If we lose 5 percent of our revenue, that's bad. But if Xbox Live gets distorted and destroyed because of three or four bad people that just want to have a grudge against Microsoft or somebody that they're playing against; that just want to ruin and wreak havoc on Live, that would really suck. That would really suck. So, that's where I'm more sensitive to them than the money.

I cant see sony waiting till 2007 to release it in the usa, that would give the xbox 360 way too much time. Its not like they are going against sega. Very Happy

And about the live thing, there are legit owners on there who want to give people a hard time, why does he think only "pirates" do it? Ever seen the video of that kid who cussed 99% of the time during halo?
