So i decided to go for a new monitor, i almost bought the LG IPS277L LED IPS (27"). But now i'm a bit worried since the screen is quite big and the resolution is 1080p will it look wierd? Higher resolution screens are more expensive but is it worth it?

I've also been looking at ASUS VG278HE which has a refresh rate of 144 but its also 1080p. Would that work better?

Anyway im looking for a screen that will last me some time and i want it to be 27".

i have LG 27" IPS 1080p monitor and i think it's perfect for home usage for gaming, web, tv shows watching. at work i have 27" 1440p and it's good for work. so i go back and forth between these monitors every day and i don't think one looks much worse than the other, they both are quality IPS screens, it's just 1080p reduces eye strain (text isn't so tiny) and 1080p easier on GPU so you don't need GTX780Ti to play latest games smoothly.

Last monitor I bought was a 27" IPS 1440p and while it's kinda cool, it sucks having to run games at 1440p for the more demanding games. For working it's definitely nice to have the extra screen real estate but I always use 2 screens anyway so it's not a big deal.
If you have just 1 monitor I'm sure the extra resolution gives you more of an advantage.

The tradeoff that now I need better hardware to run my games at 1440p hurts.
So for me personally, having tried 24" 1080p and 27" 1440p, I prefer 1080p because it's more flexible and when gaming I don't feel like there's a big enough difference between 1080 and 1440 most of the time. 1080p was already sharp enough for me really Smile

Looking back, a 1080p 24" 120hz monitor would probably have been a better choice and that's probably what I'll go for when I need my next monitor.
Of course with that I'll also need above average hardware to get above 60 fps, but at least I have the choice.
There's not really a choice when you're talking about running games at something other than the monitor's native res so I have to run everything at 1440p, but not everything needs 60+ fps.

From gaming perspective, I think it's pretty much a question of you being able to run games at 1440p. If you can (or can accept the performance levels that come with it) it's better to get the 1440p one. If not, stick with 1080p.

Then again, if "to last some time" means more than 1-2 years, than might as well plan ahead and get the 1440p one, anticipating a possible future GPU upgrade.
You can play at 1080p in windowed mode until then Very Happy

So 1080p at higher refresh rate would be best?

I read its easier on the eyes.
