There is always the question though: do you want it? I mean, I *love* more grass to enhance the visual but seeing enemies is hard enough as is. Not sure if I actually want it.

Well, there is more to it than just grass. There are also tessellated rocks everywhere! Very Happy

I guess it just kinda makes the world look a bit "livelier".
I did have the same concerns as you, about enemies hiding in the grass, but so far it wasn't a real issue. Granted, I only played a single full match with full decorations.

Well here's how things are when server is fine, no instant death and time to react to incoming damage. If you fail to see how me dying in the earlier clip differes from this one, then I can't help.

1:30-> for just the 1vs1 part. ( added bonus "then you throw some 3 random granades with no results" for the lulz Wink )

@OnBoard

i re-watched your earlier clip and here what it is :

you spray him in the torso (well, mostly around him), so he took damage, but not lethal. Easy.

Now you turn your back to him (them) and he (or they) fire a burst of bullets into your head. You die.

There is nothing else to explain. There is nothing wrong here or faulty or buggy. It's called getting 3 rounds of lead into the brain.

If you can't understand that or if you think you should be able to "react to a triple headshot", then we can't help you either Smile

Testing on the Test Range, for me it does look reversed for the minor detail, Low giving the most amount of small vegitation, through to Ultra giving the least. However, the same can not be said for the larger bushes. Low had the least amount of these, Ultra had some, while Medium and High had the most.

Checking those screens he posted, the guy is completely right. I wonder what was the intention of it (or maybe just cluelessness from DICE) Razz

Shame on you DICE Troll Face

Where is that from?!

If I understand those images right, if you select LOW it goes to Ultra settings and on windows 8 you have less details than on windows 7, which would account for the performance increase on win8?

Seriously?!

WTF just tested this with Windows 8.1 and i also have the low terrain even when i have set it to ultra. Tested it with 32 and 64-bit executable. Evil or Very Mad

It's obviously a bug.
The nice looking "low" setting is more taxing on the GPU than Ultra. But the proper Low setting (the one you get when you load the map with it set to Low) is less taxing, as it should be.
Just some weirdness in the code... someone must have mixed up the direction of the scale for quality levels on certain parts that check for it Very Happy

I already tested it... you can see my findings on the previous page. W8.1 or 7 has nothing to do with this.

It's funny how bad the "ultra" looks compared to "low ultra". Makes you seriously wonder if they're that incompetent to have fucked it up, or did that on purpose and forgot to hide it properly.

Edit: Also after more testing, it does indeed appear that Medium is the best option, since it keeps both the bushes and the foliage. From previous tests, the tessellated rock surfaces seem to be unaffected between Low and Medium as well. So far I couldn't find the difference between those two...

Well after a couple of tests its not contant. If i set every setting to low and then all settings to ultra accept the terrain setting i have nice rocks and plants. Then i leave the game and start it again (same map and server), settings are not change rocks and plants are crap again. Its even so fucked up that there is a difference between 32-bit and 64-bit. 64-bit has more rocks and trees.

That's how it works right now. You need to load the map with Ultra, and the switch to Low and redeploy for this to work. If you load the map with Low settings already set, it will show you the real Low terrain. That's the most annoying part. If you want to keep the fancy foliage and rocks, you need to remember to switch back to Ultra before the match ends or you quit.

Edit: Also here's the screen I posted before from that same place on W8.1 after switching to Low from Ultra:

I posted screenshots too, though they were not mine. I don't particularly know you just as I don't know the poster of those screens, so why would I believe one over the other? Razz

Best thing to do is always try it for yourself Wink

Anyway, I did that, and according to the results I obtained you're right, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with Win7/Win 8.1. Also, in my personal results with this test, there was arguably the same number of objects (bushes, etc.) showing on my screen both on low and medium, there was even one additional bush on my "Low" screen compared to medium, so I guess with each redeploy some minor details can change in what is rendered or not.

This was explained on /r/battlefield by some guy/or employer from DICE that it's like that to prevent campers, had something to do with BF3, cause they were hiding the bushes or w/e. Not a player so I don't really know how that was working.

That sounds like total bullshit. There's plenty of camping opportunities now in BF4, I would even say more than there ever was in BF3.
