Brazil had 50,108 murder cases in 2012, or 25,8 per 100,000 inhabitants. Up 8% from 2011.
The police also registered 566,793 cases of robbery (with force or threat of force). And there are over half a million people in jail here.
Fuck armageddon, this is hell.

Chile, Uruguay and even Argentina are much better places, I wouldn't be afraid of visiting or living there. Brazil is just too big and full of corruption, from the bottom to the top.

Scary numbers...
If you can't leave the country, can you try to move to one of the most "modern" areas with lower crime rates, or is it really a mission impossible to find one?

It's pretty much the same everywhere. I live in a good city and the crime rate here is even above national average... But I am going to move abroad, Europe is in my plans for early next year, just need a bit more money.

The murder rates ought to go down if they would just categorize them as "disappearings".

I see :<, that's the wisest thing to do, it's a good choice. Even if the crisis has left an indelible mark to Europe, especially the Mediterranean countries, such brutal levels of criminality are something that fortunately are still unknown to us.
Europe might not be the "promised land", but it's a great improvement and you already know what I'm talking about . Here in Italy for example, we might have high corruption levels as well, but the society is doing relatively well all things considered. We're getting poor and raped by politicians, but everything happens with a smile on our face..they're raping us gently .
The only major issue obviously is unemployment, but I believe it's a common problem except for those usual 3-4 lucky countries. So yeah, time to start a new (hopefully better) life!

I always thought of brazil as a place much like here except it's much bigger and everyone there has guns.
If guns were legal/abundant here, only the government would still live. People can't do anything else other than take it out on each other.

Quote: | Five people were killed on average daily in clashes with police in Brazil last year, according to a survey cited by the daily O Globo Sunday.
The report from the Brazilian Forum on Public Security found that 1,890 people in 23 Brazilian states were killed in such circumstances in 2012, including 1,322 just in the states of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Bahia.
This compares with the deaths of 89 civilian and military police in the line of duty nationwide during the same period, or one police officer for every 21 civilians killed in police clashes, it noted.
"In the United States, with a population 60 percent bigger than that of Brazil, 410 people were killed in a confrontation with police in 2012," according to the report. |
source
Edit: the article is misleading. It wasn't just in "clashes" with cops, they have a number of "accidental" killings too. Just last week a 17 year old kid was "accidentally" shot in front of his house, the cop was arrested but has already been released. And these are only the official numbers, obviously reality is worse.

You have pretty decent odds witnessing a muder or a fatal carcrash... have you?
