DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil
Platform: Xbox
Release Date: 10/5/2005
Wow @slowforce were fast this time...
[PRETIME]Doom_3_Resurrection_of_Evil_XBOX_Projectx got released 25m 9s ago [XBOX/Projectx]
DOOM 3 was pretty much the game everybody was expecting when it released last year. An absolutely killer campaign mode was matched with an online multiplayer mode that was definitely an acquired taste. Nevertheless, id’s and Activision’s (with help from Nerve) DOOM 3 did well at the registers and put the Quake, Wolfenstein, and DOOM masterminds on the Xbox map.
We recently received a demo version of DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil, which is a being touted as a “stand-alone extension of the DOOM 3 saga. The demo includes a single multiplayer map for Xbox Live and System Link play, as well as two levels of the Campaign mode. We turned the lights off and sat down for some play testing as well as pre-Halloween frights, and believe us: DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil will provide a ton of them when it ships on October 5th.
As DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil is an extension of the original title, you’ll probably notice that the story is directly tied to id’s first adventure. There’s been a two year lapse since the UAC Mars base was condemned, and it’s now quite clear why this happened in the first place. But the abandoned Red Planet is now picking up strange satellite signals from a station all but forgotten on the planet’s surface. You mission as a highly-regarded Marine combat engineer is to research these strange reading and secure the area if necessary. The head of this ambitious endeavor is Dr. Elizabeth McNeil, a super-hot, super-intelligent mastermind that isn’t afraid to flaunt what she has. Although many are against re-visiting a place that took so many lives just two years (a game) ago, the mission goes on. You job is to learn about the so-called “accident” which wiped out many good men and women. But as you quickly learn, this was no accident.
The main storyline continues right up until the first level, which is being dubbed Erebus. The name has a sort of Egyptian feel to it, which is no surprise after a quick glance around the environment. You could easily be inside one of the Great Pyramids, or any other ancient Egyptian edifice, given the look of the architecture and surrounding artifacts and markings. The only items not appearing indigenous are those that appear part of the research; common items found on nearly any archaeological dig. Well, other than the bevy of dead bodies strewn around the sandy structure. The cinematic right before going into first-person mode sets up the story well, but we’ll spare you the details in fear of ruining the intense plot of DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil.
Without going into too much detail, the Erebus level starts out with you carrying a pistol and something else that we don’t want to talk about (it’s too scary). We might as well get this out of the way now: the gameplay in DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil is relatively the same as DOOM 3, which is probably why it is being touted as an “extension”. Think of DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil as a booster pack that will play without owning the original we guess. Yes, it’s very similar, but it’s equivalent to having the story stretched out and made more intriguing with new weapons, new monsters, and new levels.

Just because you don't require the original game doesn't mean it's a sequel...
This is xbox... expansions can be runned without using the original game.. this game is an EXPANSION!!!!

Who said it was a sequel!?
I knew it was an expansion. I just figured they might have added on some extras. No doubt it will be a budget priced game. As if they would release a title that needed the original game to run! Ok maybe with the exception of the Halo2 map pack but I guess that doesnt really count anyway as they were just maps.
May the NFOrce be with you always.

This has got to be a new groundbreaking idea in games.. !! one never seen before... ever!!
Stalk your prey with a multitude of weapons.. crawl about in dark corridoors...
Wow all i can say is well done for such a novel and unique idea
gotta be one to grab! dont miss out on this one game in a lifetime experience.. never to be repeated
(well until next week.. or at the latest 10 days from now, when the next FPS hits the shelves) |
irronically enough doom was the first of its kind and ground breaking and set the trend for others such as quake and unreal, this is a must have for anyone who loves fps
As for framerate, the 360 version runs smooth, while the PS3 is a jaggy mess that chugs along in slow motion.

The character doesn't need flashlight, he need night vision. He live in the future and I can't believe he have no night vision!
If you hate it, ignore it.

I thought it was one of the worst FPS games ever to hit the Xbox, but that´s just my opinion.
