Agree about the game is expensive, both I & II. I really want to buy it, and support the remakers, but ...

Main quest wise? Quite far. The rest is up to you.
I finished the game in 40 hours (all areas, all quests), but it was my 8th playthrough, so you could spend another 20 hours playing or so.

Probably tomorrow, only Beamdog version is out right now, they usually crack Steam ones.
Some bugs, problems with new content and old one, but generally playable. The "mobs despawn after reload" bug is unfortunately present, hope the first patch changes this.

I'll buy the steam key on allegro.pl ( polish Ebay ) from a trusted seller.
Won't do you any good though, no paypal and PC/console games are one of the card-banned categories (meaning you can't pay for them in that way)

I don't know, Minsc (without Boo) in a deep German voice could work quite well, others though maybe not so much, such as Ariel the wind elf or what she was.
(Or Viconia but since she's evil I usually burn her at the stake, going to import the party form BG1 EE when I finish it - can resume now that the update is out - so maybe she'll be dead before then this time.)

Anyone else having problems running this on Win8? It gets as far as the quote and/or the intro movie then it simply freezes, I have changed the compatability mode (something I did not think would be needed as presumably this is enhanced for modern OS's) but still no luck.

Well first impressions is that it looks fucking awesome. The text is crisp and readable even though the resolution is high, it's not all tiny. I don't know what they have done to the action bar, there's some button you can press and then 10 more bars appear above the text box. Dunno what that is about.
And I don't like how all the buttons are grey by default for some reason. Maybe it's a display bug.

It's like a quickloot bar. When active, loot nearby will display in the boxes and you can sort of speedloot from there instead of having to go around clicking each corpse individually.

That loot bar is awesome. Great little addition, so far I'm really enjoying this. Granted that's because the game itself is so good, but it's nice that I don't have to hunt down a bunch of mods and shit, and its much better looking than the widescreen weidu mod

The long-term implications are great too.. a lot of engine functions have been externalized, which opens new doors for future modding. If you're a BG fan, just having a version of the game that's actually supported and evolving is awesome.

Loot bar (pretty useful like Hailey and Pixies mentioned) + new fonts
I don't know if there are bugs since I've only tested it briefly, but so far looks way better than the first unfortunate release. If only it was cheaper
