Yep, they don't jump at you with ads. The application does what it's supposed to do, smoothly in the background. It's also quite customizable to a certain extent.

Yes.

Please elaborate?
I have never felt the need for such junk on my phone, especially if someone doesn't download illegal apk's (which i do, but from trusted sources).

They take relatively little processing and RAM. The best antivirus is a smart user, that's for sure. However it doesn't hurt to have a failsafe check every now and then. The risks and security holes are there in smart phones as well as in tabletop computers.

Learned that the Google Play store is categorized as a "trusted source", yet they hardly check the 3rd party apps at all. You will mainly be on the safe end by using only products millions and millions of users are already using. Just bare in mind that a billion flies can be wrong. Rolling Eyes

When compared to Apple’s App Store, Google Play’s track record with malware is not too good. Why is this so? Well, Google and Apple have very different strategies. Apple operates within a tightly-controlled system where developers must pass Apple’s strict requirements.

Unlike Apple, Google attempts to keep the installation approach as open as possible. With Android, you are able to conveniently install apps through multiple means, which include Google Play, non-Android stores, and sideloading. There’s hardly any red tape a developer must encounter when compared to Apple, and consequently, this is how the bad guys submit their malicious apps.

How To Stay Safe from Malware

In the meanwhile, you can take the following preventive measures for installing infected apps:

- Only download from a reputable app store, such as Google Play or Amazon Appstore.
- Glance at app reviews -- people will often rate an infected app poorly and will usually warn others through the app reviews.
- Avoid downloading unofficial apps -- it's always safer to install official apps from an official app store.
- Use strong antivirus protection such as Lookout Mobile Security, AVG, and Norton.

The first step to making sure that your apps are safe is to download security software. You have it on your computer, right? Your phone needs it too.

it will drain your battery like hell.

i don't think it's needed. especially if you only use official app stores or trustworthy apk sources.

You are either ignorant or stupid if you do not use any antivirus at all.

Same here, been years without one, now only since a few years having MSE.. but it never actually popped up with a virus..
Hell if you are actually half smart, you know what to download and what to ignore.. It's not THAT hard to spot the obvious ones and if you are unsure, you are better off leaving it alone, simple as that. Wink

You seriously think all the traffic is directly proportional to what you're clicking?

Absolutely true but I wouldn't want to repeat myself too much.
