After a couple of (in-game) days, I'm already getting my ass kicked. There are literally HORDES of zombies just outside the church. From runners to the soldier zombies. It's just non-stop. It seems like I spend my entire day (ingame) just fighting off zombies, get tired and switch chars, then do it again. I can't even reach any supplies cuz I run out of melee weapons since they always break.

Is this normal? It seems awfully early for them to be so overwhelming. It wasn't that bad when I first started the game. Am I doing something wrong? I really think it's only been about 4 game days for me. Well, that I'm aware of anyway. Not sure how much time passed when I wasn't playing for a day or so.

The game is a bit random but if the zombies do get a hold in the area by establishing infections and killing off nearby survivors then you get into that situation.
(There's a couple of buildings that are very popular for zombies to infest and that causes hordes and other special zombies to appear more frequently plus they start attacking nearby survivors more aggressively.)

The church is also not a very good location for a home base but early on you won't have anything else available nor the materials (And men.) to actually establish another base.
(Establishing depots in nearby buildings with valuable materials and trapping them can help, just don't loot the building entirely of resources and you'll have that option.)

I've read about not searching the entire contents of a building to make it respawn the next day I believe. What you mention sounds a bit different though. Do you mean I SHOULD search it all, but leave the loot there?

And did you mean outpost? Or is depot something else?

Search everything in a building to reveal all the core materials, you can grab everything else but leave one of those materials there and then radio in to establish a small outpost on the location and after that's done use the base menu to select the outpost and establish traps around it. Smile
(Different bases can have different amount of outposts I believe, trying to get a varied amount of resources is useful but spreading them too thin can also be risky, better to establish a sort of perimeter around the home base.)

This will extend the safe zone and usually kill off nearby roaming zombies as they get close.

Oh and each in-game day the established outpost will give a few materials for as long as you have access to it.

Nope. It's a game for griefers and trolls, not a zombie survival simulator.

The game runs really well but I just can't play it normally because whenever my character moves, the animation is jaggy as hell when running, the guy or gal just stutters around but it has nothing to do with performance since everything else is fine, when walking it's not as servere but I thought this was a bug in the early version, it still pertains.

Anyone got a clue?

Seemingly it's a bug some people have since the last update. There's a patch coming the week after next I think so maybe it'll be fixed then.

The game feels so much better for me after all the patches, even mouse controls are decent now (except for the acceleration/deceleration when aiming, but I'll have to deal with that Razz).

Too bad that after a week of inactivity my virtual world has gone to the dogs, with friends dying out of nowhere (apparently because of an infestation), god damn it Laughing . Imma restart everything and apply the Standard Time launcher so I don't get trolled anymore Mad

It's funny you should mention this because I was going to ask the same thing. I've been playing it a few days and moved my base to a bigger one, and all of a sudden hordes of zombies appeared out of no where. I went to do a survivor rescue mission and everywhere I went seemed to be teeming with zombies. And it wasn't the regular horde zombies which are marked on the map and HUD, there were swarms of them coming out of the houses etc. It was like wave after wave. I was like WTF, never had that happen. Any time there was a msg about too many hordes or infestations, I would clear them out immediately. I'm wondering if it has to do with how many in game days you've played or possibly storyline progression.

Zombie population has been increased after release patch. People were bitching it was too easy and they weren't a threat.

I have no idea how outposts work with the traps. I built an outpost at the gun store just down from the church since I figured ammo is an important thing. Then I saw this random 'trap' option that I have no idea what it does. I know it kills passing hordes but it auto-builds everytime it gets used? I have no clue. There are lots of things about this game that need more documentation in game IMO.

You have it exactly, traps automatically kill any hoards that shamble into the radius and then they have to be replenished - it's not automatic though but it is a simple click of a button to replenish all traps at once. They have another benefit too; adding traps significantly increases the monitored/safe radius around each outpost.

They only need replenishing after a set amount of time. As long as that timer is still counting, the traps will blow up any horde, and will automatically reset the traps (the progress bar under the symbol on the map).

I thought that was just for initial activation? I've always had to keep resetting traps from the build menu Neutral

When you activate the traps it's only temporary. But as long as the "boost" is active, the traps will automatically reset. Just lure a horde into any active outpost and you'll see the green progress bar star filling up after the fireworks.

You know it's time to reset the traps is when the safe circle shrunk back to its original size. I don't think the mine icon even turns green before that.

Here's how they work. They don't even need arming, the mine icon only sets the radius of the traps, they still work even inside the small circle.

http://stateofdecay.wikia.com/wiki/Outposts

Quote:
An outpost has a radius around it where zombies never spawn in known as a "Safe Zone"; it is also automatically armed with fire traps. If a horde (not single zombies) gets inside the Safe Zone, the traps will activate and destroy the horde. Safe Zone radius can be increased temporarily (2 real time hour) at a cost of 1 fuel and 1 influence.

Yeah, I knew all the rest - I just didn't know (or forgot) the traps reset themselves on a timer. Thanks Smile

I dunno about everyone else, but I think the game is now unplayable. It's literally impossible to complete missions when hordes of zombies now spawn out of all the buildings in your surrounding area. I lost one of my favorite survivors because after I cleared at least 20 zombies that spawned in the area, another 10 or so spawned after that and ran over to me and overwhelmed me.

It's like every zombie is now alerted to your presence regardless if you're quiet and don't use guns.
Just walking into and area is now like you've set off a bomb or something and alerted everything!

It's retarded that walking past a single building spawns hordes, plural not singular! They just keep coming now to no end. Once you fight them all off, the system spawns a new set.

This is what I was describing in my post towards the top of this page. It's just massive amounts of zombies now. I can't get past the initial perimeter of the church at this point and it's only been a few game days at most.

Glad someone else has the same opinion Smile After losing my best/fav survivor, I thought about restarting but the first missions would be impossible now with hordes everywhere.

The morale rate is fubar too. After playing a few hours of the game, I went to bed for maybe 7hrs and woke up to find my morale was dangerously low. Like seriously?
