Aparently the exchange got DDosed. Nice going, torpeding an exchange rate real money-wise using DDOS. Let;s all go bitcoin!

Apparently the strategy is to DDOS at the peak, flood with a massive Sell orders. Everybody sells, DDOS laggs the sell, making it a huuuuuge slow sell. Stop DDOS, buy the Sell orders. Let price go up, repeat...

Quote:
ESEA Member unisolsz discovered that the client required to play on ESEA was running a bitcoin miner. After players were complaining about virus alerts being set off from the client and unusually high GPU usage and BSOD errors.

The thread he made regarding this can be found here

ESEA admin, lpkane admits that it was an "April Fools joke" that was mistakenly left in the client that ran for only 2 days. He claims only 2 bitcoins were mined in total (Roughly around $280 USD) and that it would go towards a prize pool. Source

He later corrects that it was running for 2+ weeks and actually raised 29~ bitcoins (around $3,602.21 USD) and to apologize awarded all current ESEA premium members a free month of service and that all the money raised will go into the prize pool. He also claims that all bitcoin mining code was removed from the client. Source #2

Bitcoin miners use up 100% of GPU processes and lead to a lowered hardware lifespan, and can actually damage it permanently.

Niceee. "April Fool's joke" he says Reaction

Norwegian man buys 150kr ($26) worth of Bitcoin back in 2009 whilst researching encryption for a university paper. He forgets about it until this year... checks his account and... well... I'm not going to spoil the surprise. Just read the article and then come back here for a shared cry.

not really, we have banks for a reason be they corrupt or bastards most the time you can always go see your money is in the account for the most part lol.

everyone being a bank is going to be risky on the note of "secure money" - Its also very much more attractive to go looking for that money, less risky no baraclavas or shotguns.

yeah, JPM (or someone else) was developing traded derivatives on the mt Gox price. So sit back and you will see them in the near future. But you could always call JPM and ask them for OTC derivatives. I guess they will find a counterparty for you (and charge you 10% for doing so), you know, the house always wins, just let the muppets play with each other...

isnt it right that if debt was wiped globally due to not being able to clear it the normal ways, they would have to wipe all savings of people as well?

food for thought.

Well that's kinda an obvious answer.. wipe debt globally SHOULD mean everyone has 0 (whatever currency) again. Everyone has to start over..

But what's the point in doing so, unless we make drastic changes to this, it's bound to fail again in xx years.. Even faster prolly than before..

Ive been mining since 2008. Presently Mining with 2 BFL 60GHash units.

Just paid off my new truck (2013 Limited F150) by vesting some, my two vacations for next year, and all hardware i ever purchased to mine Smile .

Still hording a shitload and will sell 1 now every time i mine 1 which is about every 7-10 days.

Fun times. I vested some just so i can say i made a good profit, in case the bottom falls out and they become worthless.

Using all my old GPU miners for Litecoin now. Who knows right, i was in the Bitcoin game for fun as i am a AMD fanboy i already had the proper card. I never would have thought i could have made 50K+ from this. And i still have a very large portfolio of Bitcoins.
