So yeah, what he's saying, not worth a complete mobo and cpu upgrade unless you got too much money

This, plus since the 2600K should overclock better, these 16-13% should easily be minimized by overclocking. But yeah, games will not really profit from the extra %.
All of this had been discussed so many times already since Ivy came out and has not changed with Haswell (and wont change with Haswell refresh).
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Hopefully the difference IS noticeable with Skylake, 4 years should be a nice timing for a CPU+Mobo upgrade

Next upgrade for me needs to be as good as Phenom II -> SB. Maybe Skylake will give me that.

Likewise, from my Phenom II x4 955 to my i7-2600k was such a big jump, THAT is the very least i expect for upgrading at those prices

Sitting at 4.8Ghz happily, although on water Not gonna push it further as I'm more than happy with that. Board was main reason for my upgrade as previous one had faulty USB ports, along with needing a new case
Love the Win8 features on this board, fast boot, SSD performing better etc, like night & day compared to previous, all in all, I'm delighted with Haswell, but it does really need to be on water to get the best out of it, and keep the temps normal.

I agree with the others. Stick with your current system, upgrade GPU and replace HDD.
The performance difference vs price is a waste of money.

StrEagle doesn't have a 2600K or anything. He's got an old system from 2006, the whole Sandy vs Haswell thing was with regards to scaramonga.

Hijacking this thread..........
How is this rig for a kid who only wants to game? The CPU is AMD since it seems to be close to the 4670K in gaming and the motherboard doesn't matter much since he won't OC (doesn't even know what it means). Main purpose is: cheapest rig possible which will run new games on high/max. The GPU will be my OCed 7870.

I'm an SSD noob, so that one might be crap. It was the cheapest.

That AMD is only comparable to 4-core intel if the game is very heavily multithreaded.

Take BF4 and new strategy games like CoH1/2 as a reference.

Wrong
I put together a *very* similar system for my cousin and it ran BF4 almost exactly the same as my system did - FPS was more stable, but this was in the beta, I suspect they're 100% equal now. Results all around (Fire Strike included, see the Fire Strike thread) to my i5-760 were nearly identical with my 680 in there. It did better on CPU intensive tasks, when not CPU bound it performs the same. And no game should be CPU bound at 1080p or they're doing it wrong.
And yes Mister_s, I'd go for a bigger SSD. For some 30-40 EUR extra you can double that capacity. That at least allows 1-2 games to be installed on it.

also, and correct me if i'm wrong, smaller ssd tend to be of lesser quality overall compared to the bigger ones.

Time to correct you then
Quality is the same. What you're referring to is probably the fact that smaller capacities tend to have lower speeds? That's not due to quality, that's due to how an SSD works.

Thanks for the input guys. I dropped teh CPU cooler and changed the case for the Sharkoon Vaya, and got the Kingston 120GB SSDNow V300 SSD in their place. It's just under 700 now.
Spoiler: | |
So, thumbs up?

Why not go for 8GB RAM and invest the money in 256GB SSD?

This.
Where is the GPU? Ditch the PSU for a smaller one, should easily get yourself a 256GB SSD if you get a smaller PSU + 8GB of RAM, not much point in 16GB atm.

I can get 256 ssd, without scaling back the RAM, in fact I want to get a 90% eff PSU, but they have none in stock
the 760 HAWK was already bought, I don't need a bigger one atm

I bought it last week with discout, to replace my failed 460 on my old PC
the PSU is currently
SEASONIC SS-750KM3 Gold, 750W 80%
or
FORTRON AURUM PRO 850, 850W
or
COOLER MASTER SILENT PRO GOLD 800, 800W 90%
the difference is 5-20$ and I'm inclined to go with the CM
the one I wanted was SEASONIC SS-760XP2 Platinum, 760W, but they don't have it.. and from it to CM the difference is 5$
I don't understand why is everyone inclined to make me not take the CM, but any other 90% PSU, when the difference is 5$, but "it's overpriced"
