nice site..

I hope we'll see a better iso shrinker soon.. We need it Wink. That or ZIP support with UMD emulator.

BTW, when programs support ZIP/RAR etc.., do they unpack the compressed file into memory?

I think they do hhmmm... I remember with the GP32 you could only compress files that could be unpacked into the memory (I think Razz)

Well when you think of it, say you have that 800mb File Zipped / Rar'd to 73mb, wouldnt it have to unpack into the memory or like unpack in Real time as you are playing???

hmm.. Well there could be a read buffer of some sort. But I don't see how one could "navigate" a compressed file in real time.

....but I don't know anything about this.

Does anybody here know? would it be possible to support running of lager compressed files on a PSP?

I just looked into that Grip Shift iso.. It has one HUGE file in PSP_GAME\USRDIR\data\base.pak. That File is almost 700 MB and is only filled with '{{{{{{{{{{{'. I have tried to replace that file with a dummy and repack the iso. But it hangs.

On UMDs they use files like this to press the data to the edge of the UMD-disk for faster loadtime. It's anyoing for us though Wink

gripshift is no normal iso - if it was, im sure you could shrink it drastically... for a start, id get rid of all that horribly sh*tty arse F(&*#$&@($ING MUSIC!!

*ahem*

anyway, i had a look in the iso a long time ago, and if you do likewise, youll see the problem... there appears to be duplicate files with the same name, located in the same directory... theres a proper reason/method for this, but i just refer to it as witch craft, which makes me sleep better at night - extracting the iso in order to rebuild it, 'overwrites' the duplicate files, which is why your rebuilt iso hangs, i believe. its a nasty thing really, hope someone cracks this egg so that sony doesn't end up making 1.7gb iso's for 200mb games, that we cant shrink down... Very Happy

i think ill be buying a 2gb memory stick anyway, for xmas, just to be on the safe side...
