Planning to take a look at the career mode settings in a bit, so if no-one's answered in a couple of hours, I'll post. Smile

Had a quick nosey at the career mode. You start off on a trial-basis for one of three teams in the Junior WRC, and the voice-over mentions something about doing well and getting a better contract. So... Career mode should be decent? Sorry I'm not giving more info - really want to play the Deus Ex:HR DC, but people asking about the career mode got me curious. Smile

Wow.

Let me elaborate on that: wow.

I don't know who the fuck Milestone hired, but MEGAtexture's description is an understatement. Ladies and gentlemen, CMR is back - and then some. Not only is the sense of grip vastly improved (in the sense that gravel feels a bit more loose than before, but the difference between gravel and tarmac is now much bigger), but the way the cars handle has improved dramatically. There's more ways to tune your car and they do affect the car the way they should; some seem to overdo it somewhat (diffs mainly), but for the most part they do a good job of representing the effects. You can perfectly flick into a slide, control it there with throttle + counter steer and then pull out of it just as it should work. Like I said, some of it is a little overdone, so when you flick into a slide, it actually flicks ridiculously fast and pulling out is pretty darn easy. The mechanics, physics are all there - they are just not 100% accurate.

That's why it's still not really a sim, but it's definitely at CMR levels; I'd even say slightly better than that (from the actual rally point of view...it does have...other issues Laughing), since you have more control over your car setup than you ever did in CMR. If there were awards for "developer who improved on their shit the most", Milestone would win it. It seems they're getting back into their groove.

Now, that's not to say it's flawless, it is Milestone after all Laughing

Graphically it's no powerhouse, but it looks good enough for me. Input is still not handled 100% (not XInput); triggers on the 360 pad can now be assigned properly, but it seems to be skipping beats on the button presses. I can't just quickly shift from 4th back to 1st by 3 quick presses, it'll stop at 2nd gear. Audio is fine, menus are still strange (and with VSync on, run at 30 FPS game itself is fine at 60 though). Nice touch is the use of *actual* WRC footage, I love that.

Career mode does indeed seem to be good. Start off in Junior WRC class (Fiesta wahey) and work your way up.

I am impress Milestone. You went from utter shite 2 years ago, to decent last year, to the best rally game in longer than we wish it has been. It's not pCARS, it's not RBR and it's not even as polished as CMR was when that came out (or its successor), but I'll be damned if I'm not going to enjoy this Smile

I tried this game yesterday with friends remember our previous wrc title playthrough and hotseats and apart from the g27 force feedback being vastly improved we felt the game was just a rehash. didnt feel anything different driving the cars from the previous title.

was actually disappointed after reading the positive comments here.

we played about an hour in total so maybe not enough? first impressions was not much had changed though.

we did only do single stage rally hotseats though.

Damn it, I had to download this game twice because of them repacking errors that I was experiencing but now it's finally working. Very Happy

My first impressions are positive gameplay-wise and kinda negative graphics/performance wise. It's definitely fun to drive, similar to WRC3 of course but the car feels more responsive than before, the different surfaces really deeply affect your driving style (unlike Codemaster's games, all of them), there are more cars, different times of the day, more varied tracks and some additional cameras (haven't tried the Career mode yet though).

It's not a sim, but it's not arcade either. It's a hybrid done right in my opinion, exactly what the Dirt series should have been in the first place before the Derp possessed them.

There are many problems too, such as the lack of advanced settings for *pretty much anything*, the graphics which are honestly quite average, cheap sound effects, and the framerate issues - speaking of which:

Disable vsync and AA from the launcher (especially the AA, it's bugged), and force vsync from the drivers instead. I tried to use some injectors as a replacement for the AA but they always give me errors so I had to go for Nvidia's FXAA.

edit: a couple of Screens pls in case there's someone who's curious:

It's a shame that the visuals can't be tweaked at the moment (dat KC's motion blur), it's basically a straight port so..yeah. We have to deal with it. Razz

Yes, you only need to create an account with username/pw and a valid email address (since you have to validate it), and that's it.

No way. In the menus, VSync locks you to 30 FPS, but in-game my 680 gets me to 60 just fine?

That's the problem I think, the error disappeared for me as soon as I created and validated the online account Razz (for some weird reason the times don't get saved under my name though :/)

Huh... That's very strange. Creating an account was the first thing I did. Confused

Edit:

Something's cocked up with this. I created an account a few days ago under Pixieking. Tried to log-in to it (why doesn't it auto-login?). Failed to validate. Can't reset password. So then I created another account. Under Pixieking. With the same email address. Which it allowed me to do (totally shouldn't have). And still refuses to log me in (same validation error). What the hell. Sad

Edit the 2nd:

Apparently their network system is screwed, with multi-player pretty much dead, and creation and validation of accounts fucked up. Sad

Edit the 3rd:

For future reference (in case other people have issues). Their nickname registration system is really bad. It doesn't say if the nickname you're trying to register is used. They also had server issues with registration on Friday, apparently. So, I repeatedly tried to register a nickname that had already been registered (by me?) and junked. I changed my nickname slightly, and it's fine.

So, are you guys up for this or what?! Played a bit with random people earlier and then with Dimas a bit too and it's bloody fun. The multiplayer part is still pretty much the same though, they didn't add more options to play around with unfortunately, but what's there is still just as fun as it was last year. As for the game in general... hmm, it does feel better, that's for sure. I'm not sure what's up with the graphics side of things. Didn't WRC3 look better? I remember the foliage looking especially cool in that. This one seems to be very incosistent with the graphics unlike 3, cars look pretty great and then you see some really ugly textures in a lot of places.
